Need advice - lost ring

Okay I guess this just is not going to get found I don't know how it's possible but I can't find this damn ring 🤯🤯😞 - question when I stick the metal detector down in a hole like this does that affect it? Because I don't get any type of reading when I stick it in there on low sensitivity and this is where I thought it went into one of these holes... I've broken out two cinder blocks and I'm down to the last one I've scooped out layers and layers of dirt with my hand try scanning the area everywhere I threw debris and leaves and stuff 🤷🤷

When I changed the sensitivity to the first setting it definitely helped with not having so many pings, I found a pair of sunglasses about 4 in down but this ring should be right up top and I'm just not finding anything - when I turn the send back up it does ping when I'm on top of the hole but it's max depth reading like everything was when I had it turned up
I live in Orlando someone asked where I'm at going to give it a couple more days of messing around out there and then just say fuck it I guess
I really appreciate all the help and sticking with me and if anyone has any other ideas I'm definitely open to it but just kind of losing my confidence at this po

The erratic readings and erratic beeping could very well be the fence.

The user manual can be read here:

As I mentioned earlier, you coil is not installed correctly…. Looking at the photo, the coil needs to be rotated 1/4 turn clockwise.
Another thing that I noticed is the cable is very loose around the shaft and that can cause erratic signals like you are getting.
Another thing to keep in mind…when you have the coil in the hole, the coil has to be moving back and forth to pick up a signal..there is not enough room there for movement.. that is why you are not getting any signals when it is in the hole.

Rings are funny. When they drop and hit something solid. They take flight. I swear you'd think there super balls.
I've worked around cinder block a bit.
When removing old blocks for a new foundation.
The ones that had dirt filled in.
When water drains into them they creat little channels or holes near the corners for the water to drain. I'm suspecting either you moved it with the surface material. It bounced off the block.
Or it fell to the bottom of the blocks thru one of those drain holes.
I do highly suggest a pin pointer as others have suggested.

As Fwcrawford mentioned.
A loose coil wire can cause erratic signals.
Especially when bumping objects.
Tape it to the shaft up to a ft above the coil.
Proper coil orientation is important.
And vlf detectors need movement of the coil over a target to produce a signal.
Only certain detectors have non motion reporting.

Remember this.
If metal detecting was easy. Everyone would be doing it. Getting frustrated is why there are hundreds of new detectors sitting in garages.
When you get frustrated. Walk away.
Consume your favorite beverage and take a break.
At this point getting a pin pointer could be critical to a productive recovery.
They make great nail and pipe locators in walls too.
Again. Good Luck

Borrow a Tesoro with a 4" coil. Start with all metal mode and if you're getting signals, size them. Then try disc. Mode with iron nails just barely knocked out. Good luck. jmho Worth a try...

that by any chance need to be in motion to detect? Maybe put detector in pinpoint mode to zero in on target and maybe find ring quickly
