need advice exploring 1000 acre campgrounds

I'm so jealous, sounds like you have a great hunting area. If you find the bunkhouses, don't forget to search the floors and walls on the inside (could get lucky and find a cache).

Man that is one heck of a spot to detect. GOod luck.

I would head strait to what looks to be a swimming area! I would get in the water with my Lake Looter Ace 250 and scoop up some gold! You found a sweet spot that looks like it would take a lifetime to cover.

You have lucked onto what could be a bonanza and keep you busy detecting for several years. With everything this place has been and with its history no telling what is lost and buried there from money to relics. Your rewards should be many. Just check out the history and find where everyone congregated and where everything went on. The lake, in the water and out, should be a hot spot. Good luck.

Bill

Thanks Bill, I expect it will take a lifetime to really discover all this place hides. Just the history I've read about the cherokees teaming up with other tribes for protection ,and living here after being run out of tennessee was a surprise in itself. Then the story of two early settlers that owned the ranch at different times, and the many cattle drives, and finally the land being used each summer for thousands of youths since 1950 is a lot to absorb. What I really hope to accomplish is that I go there next week and impress them enough to open the door for other detectorists to be invited in by taking care to not dig up the place, and leaving it as good if not better than when I arrived. As you can see by the picture I posted, there is a huge outdoor amphi theater outside by the lake, and a full scale fort that was built by the lake also. Add to that 100's of buildings and houses full of furniture and you really have to be trusted, as there is no way they can watch you all day. So what I do will probably be used as a measuring stick on whether to let others enjoy what I will be able to do starting next week. I will certainly set a good example.

wish some of these forum users lived here in north texas so they could hunt with me

I am in Garland :garrett: Texas and would love to join you at this site you have found.

Yeah you don't want to blow that bonanza. Will certainly be loking forward to your many find. Should be ample Indian relics there.

Bill

oldrivers - Take this time to grow your relationship with the people at the Camp. You can invite them to have coffee somewhere and chat maybe sit with them and introduce them to this forum? They can get to know what MDing is all about and feel to be a part of the experience - you never know you may get them interested in the action! What better MDing partner? You can also use this time to invite those that have expressed interest in joining you at the Camp.

Good Luck!

hi this is camel down in glen rose.if the pool is surrounded by grass that would be the first place i would look that should yield the most jewelry, the beach area would be the next place i would look.good luck

Thanks camel I never thought about around the pool. But they would all lay around the pool for sure.and they did use the lake for swimming before the pool got built.

I have to wait till next week to hunt there. I'm to meet them there tuesday. Garrett is letting me trade up to a 250 for just a few dollars and the 150. I felt I'd be better off with the 250 seeing as how you guys like it so much.I'll drive over to garrett in garland on monday and then watch out coins here I come!

Sure would like the opportunity to join you. I live in Cleburne,TX. and have been the president of Cowtown Treasure Hunters for 3 years. I consider myself a devoted and responsible detectorist and always enjoy meeting new folks that enjoy the hobby. If you are interested in my company give me a call. (cell 817-240-1943) ask for Larry.

Besides the swimming areas, I would definitely check out the places where the crowds watch the ball games and the rodeos, and anything that looks like playground or picnic area. When they have weddings, etc., find out where the people eat their meals out on the grass.

And it would be VERY important to get an experienced MD'er like TexasPapa, so he can show you the ropes of digging without messing up the grass. Plus you have far to much property to cover by yourself in a lifetime.

Another good practice would be a letter from the detecting association thanking the ranch for letting you guys hunt.

I hope to get to Dallas in a month or so. Maybe I can swing by your place and help you gather all the loot.

be more than happy to have you join us and that's great advice.Texas Papa and I are going to hunt there wednesday and thursday weather permitting, but storms are in the forecast. I will definately send them a letter as well. Thanks
