Need a little help on this weird occurrence with my D2

Im using the Beach program and Im picking up bobby pins in dry sand. I dont get a Target ID but I do get a very good solid signal.
What do I need to do to eliminate the bobby pin signal.

Or do you mean, you are getting a signal on the meter only? That appears to be normal on mine for notched signals.

By "Srim 40" do you mean Discrimination of 4.0?
If so, try setting your discrimination at 6.5. This will give you the old "iron grunt" over such targets.

Discrimination is set to 40. There's NO target ID number but a good audio signal. I know its a bobby pin when there s no TID #

I found an extremely thin, small, gold ring that TID at 40. So that's why I have the discrimination set there. Been digging tons of foil and nothing good, ever.
Discrimination at 40, eliminated 99% of foil signals. Only heavy aluminum, yogurt lids and safety lids, come in above 40. Specifically 43 !!!

Why would iron give a good tone is its all disked out ???

The false from the point. With iron vol 3 you will hear it honk, which will be the clue u need.

I have experienced the same thing on the wet or dry sand, really good tone and screen doesn't change. And every time I dig it a bobby pin. My solution, I know its a bobby pin I just keep moving.

Don’t know how to eliminate the issue but I would not dig if you’re not getting a target ID. If it sounds deep and no target ID I may dig it up.

Yes, if deep, definitely dig !!!

I have found, if no TID on DEEP targets, if you whip the coil real fast, you may get a number. Certainly helps to have a clue. Digging 2 feet for a zinc penny sucks.

This machine is definitely the deepest Ive ever used !!!!

Try turning your iron volume up that should give you the bad chunky sound it’s worth a shot. Good luck!

Say Donna, try this; start over with your descrim and redo it. Are you using 3,4 or 5 tones. First tone to 6.6 and give it the pitch of 100-150. Any small iron should fall within that number. Do you want to hear the small iron? Yes, then turn it up to where you can slightly hear it, 1-5. Not hear it, leave it on 0. You can set your 2nd tone bin 6.7-40 descrim. Keep in mind that anything that falls within those numbers you can not mute. I sure wish we could though like the other brand detector. But you sure can set the tone/pitch down nice and low like the first tone bin. Your 3rd tone you would set maybe 450-550, your preference of course. Take that number up to 75-80, Im guessing a bit here for where the largest of large gold would fall. I would think your bobby pins should be muted as long as your first tone bin is set to 0. Do you ever see a 00 flash up on the VID screen when running a bobby pin over the coil. Before you even set your descrim up for this, have it wide open just to see what number those pins come in at. Im thinking around 1-3. Hope it helps you out here. Steve

Donna have a beach program (24 )and a bench sensitive (40) program. You can check the target with either one. I forget which program but one of them hates bobby pins.

You maybe experiencing Iron Halo.
Bobby pins are notorious for that.
When any iron object decomposes in the ground.
The iron Leach's out into the ground.
Forms like an iron crystal ball around the object.
Ever notice the orangy to red sand around the object ?
And a highly radio frequency reflective ball.
My solution on any suspected Halo effect.
I carry a 12" long screwdriver.
I put it into the ground a few inches from the target.
Give it a hard wiggle and break up that crystal matrix.
Typically the target will instantly switch to a solid iron ready. Sometimes a hard heel stomp will do it.
This also explains why you have vanishing targets.
Like a target creating the Halo effect. That was a needle size piece of iron. That pretty much completely eroded away creating a nice big Halo.
As soon as you break the matrix up digging.

Thanks Steve. I'll need to dig some more bobby pins as I threw the old ones out !!! Then try your setup. Just couldnt understand why I was getting an audio signal when my discrimination was set at 40 !!!! but no TID ???

A 12" is a BIG item to carry in my pouch !!!! Id probably loose it !!!! But I will try the stomping method, next time I encounter a bobby pin.
