MYRTLE BEACH LOCAL.... INFO....

ferdware

New member
Hello All,

I am a local to Myrtle Beach, (well Garden City, same area). I have been hunting 4 to 5 nights a week. I have been working areas from N.Myrtle to Pawleys Island. I have run into quite a few MDrs so far. Last week I ran into about 7 of them that were all here together. That was pretty cool.
If anyone is planning a trip to MB and needs any information on any areas. Give me a shout. I will be glad to help with anything I can. Or if anyone is looking for someone to hunt with, Im up for that as well.

Happy Hunting

Sent you a pm

Thank joe

Just wondering, I used to live there for a whole year while stationed at Hunter Army Airfield back in '69-'70. Used to live in an apartment complex owned by a Mr. Bix (sp) not sure if that's how it was spelled. He also owned alot of property and an electric company there in Garden City. Bet that place has changed alot, pretty sure that apartment complex is gone by now. HH

Hi John,
Yes it has changed alot. All the small privately owned hotels have nearly disapeared. Replaced by huge corporate hotels. You have to pay to park anywhere. The old mall in MB is gone. A new one on the bypass is now very popular. O, and the airforce base is now called The Market Commans. It is a whole upper class shopping community. All the old brick housing there has been individually sold off. All the old shortcuts we use to take to get accross town are now busy highways, cluttered with strip malls and developments. Santee Cooper supplies all the eletric. BUT Burroughs and Chapin still own most of the beach.

I have been here since 1995 and have seen this town grow 10 fold, but not allways in the right direction.

Thanks for the info Ferd, much appreciated. My wife and I used to go to Ogolthorpe Mall and just spend the day out there. My wife was thinking about some old friends we had up there so she did a search on facebook and found them, they now live in Rankin, Nancy's husband died a few years back. Thanks for taking the time to reply, good hunting to you. John

My friend and I come to MB several times a year and wonder if there is somewhere /away/' from the beach that we can go and do some detecting. Maybe some old schools and othere old communities etc. We really love looking for relics. We asked the town and they warned us that we could did nowhere in town except the beaches sooooo we r wondering if you know any place we could drive out in the country etc and detect. thanks theresa and carolyn two od retired women wanted to have some fun.

Ferd:
I'll be at Myrtle next Sunday for a week--this is probably my 10th week down there, but my first with my new Excal which got a shakedown cruise in the Potomac yesterday. I was planning on visiting the Pier area at Garden City one day during the week, probably in the morning. Maybe we can run in to each other. Are there any areas at Myrtle that weren't refurbished with sand over the winter--any recommendations? I was lucky enough to get a few much-appreciated tips from Sand Scoop about good places to go but it's always a good idea to ask around. -Mac

I will be in MB Oct 2-5. I'd love some local insight. I haven't found how to PM yet, guess I'll figure it out shortly. Thanks for a reply
