My Waterproof Minelab Explorer II

dude, you are talented. I'm wanting to send you my Safari.

Thanks...Im not sure if a Safari would fit or not but I think the head unit is the same. I looked at an Etrac recently but that is different..it would require a whole new design.

OK, beautiful job but now it's time to look at the E-Trac... :)

Seriously though, you did do a great job on this!

Thanks and yes the Etrac was just done by someone else based off of my design templates, parts list and suggestions. Here are just a few pics he posted somewhere else.

The total weight is 2.5 kg. I am using it in and out of the water. The last picture is an FM transmitter for wireless headphones.

If this is interesting will post new topic with more details.

Not sure what you mean by latest? Design? email? As far as the Explorer is concerned, Im using an SE now with the current design but there may be a re-design in the works for next winter.

Saltshaker, have you decided on working on other people's machines? Have you decided on kits?

If not on both that is OK with me. Would you share the how too's with me in an email?

Tony, I dont work on other people's machines but I have helped several do this project. It all depends on how far you want to take it as mine was to the fullest extreme. Some of the materials needed (mainly the vaccuum formed plastic) I have made for people since I still have the custom molds to make the front and back pieces. I will send you an email with some information on how to start this but with a project like this, there never was a step by step instruction book just because it's all custom as I went along and changes would happen on the fly.
Lastly, I did ask who would be interested in kits in this forum but it really didnt have a high demand nor was it really feasible or cost effective for me. Not that I want to make any money from something like this, just that the time involved to make the frame and get the parts all together would take too long to offer many in any resonable amount of time.

Saltshaker, I understand about the time involved in the working man hours but thanks for pointing out the time spent on buying or finding new parts. I didn't think of that as a step in the project. The man hours probably puts the breaks on doing this for someone else.

I currently work at baby sitting three or four days a week for my two grandchildren. So after reading and seeing your modification I thought of a good winter project for my Exp II. So, yes I want to commit and build one - it's a great idea to have the Exp II in water and not have to worry about getting it wet.

Today I am working around the house because my time is short to get things done now that the cool weather is here.

Just an quick update. I wanted to do a complete redesign but I never have time over the last winter. However, I was never happy with the splice tube especially after it leaked a couple times. Finally got around to improving with a new version. This was a new part I found online which was an underwater splice tube for low voltage wiring. I cut the ends off and epoxied them back together with some clear acrylic pipe. Just tested great on the dunk test, ready to go back out now. Heres a pic of it without the Velcro strap I use to hold it in place.

very good and well done :bouncy:

did you say you had a mould to make the control box cases ?

AJ

thanks, yes I still have them and the vacuum forming box to make front and back pieces based on a 1/4" gasket to be used.
