Went out for a little while this afternoon and found a pin. It is 1 1/8 inches square and is in really nice shape. The front has "Edison" engraved on it and the back has "whitehead & Hoag, Newark NJ, Pat Aug 2, '21. The pin on the back is intact and with a little oil, works perfectly.
There used to be a plant here in town that made the wood cabinets for the Edison Co. phonographs. I suspect that it is connected with them in some way. Whitehead & Hoag specialized in advertising and promotional items, so it figures. Guess i'll run down to the library tomorrow and ask them if they know about it.
The thing was about 7 inches deep and the signal was kinda bouncy since it was under a piece of rusty strap iron. It's not real heavy, but it came out of the ground in really nice shape so I believe it may have some silver in it.
