My first week with the CZ3D

hi matt!
as stated in a previous post,i believe the "hocky puck" is the make or break difference operating the (d) in advanced mode in a pre 1950's site that is super trashy!
thanks for the input!..

I am sure others have more time and understanding than I do on the 3d but glad to give my insight on it. If I am wrong or offend anyone with my lack of understanding of it...please chime in. I am sure I have much to learn as well and always willing to better myself and my results. I would like to help others understand that this is not a hard detector to learn. I read much more than I post but find it hard to stay out of the 3d controversy...

I can't say I get a better signal with 5" puck on the 3d, no difference in the tone to me. The puck is a must for any detector you have...no matter what brand for the tight spots between the trash most miss. The main thing is that it is a sharp tone, without any slur in it. Starts sharp...ends sharp and small in size..quick like. I used to switch back and forth to see the difference and stopped doing that. I will say deep nickles will only read "nickle" in the enhanced mode and not salt.. All silver will read coin in both modes but the enhanced will get deeper. I have had coins that would not read at all in the salt mode due to depth. The major difference I have noticed is that zinc in salt will now read coins. In the salt mode zinc we think of as pennies or even junk....in enhanced the deep zinc are the Indian head pennies and such and will read coin. So in the enhanced mode it mostly changes the nickle slot to read deeper nickles better....the fall back, shallow nickle readings are sometimes wrong. And it bumps all coins, zinc and all to read coin...more like a relic mode I guess if you are use to the 4 tone CZ 70. Zinc readings are not so great if they are shallow but deep ones can bring in some nice finds. So if you want to check to see if it is a zinc because it is shallow...feel free to cause in enhanced it will say "coin" dig me! There is some movement in the pull tab range as well in enhance but is not really noticeable if you are a coin hunter. I have got some nice gold rings that rang up as zinc in the enhanced mode...this is your pull tab change I mentioned. If you hunt coins only then you may not want to dig a zinc reading in enhanced mode...but if you like relics and surprises then dig some. Other wise, coin means coin in enhanced, zinc means....maybe something worth checking out, and it is still a high tone. I know there is more to the changes than that but I am not that dang smart...lol.

I like the idea of being able to hunt by tone only and let the detector decide for me what I should dig or not.In the parks I use a little more caution, at the old farm or what have you...I trust it and will always dig it if it sounds good. I use to run with max boost on the sound , thinking it would be better to hear the soft ones but found it is much nicer to run boost around 7-8 depending on the outside noise and always wear head phones. I am a bit hard of hearing and the boost has made my world so much better. If you run full boost it seems to distort the good signals and you find yourself failing to recheck those deep ones, makes some of the junk sound better as well. If it is a deep signal you want to know so you can turn on it, some times you may not get a complete signal from every angle but a 3/4 turn is enough for me to dig a 10" target. Just listen for the short beep, with no slur or distorted tone and your good to go. This thing loves silver coins and rings!

thanks .matt!..appreciate the offer!..always willing to consult the voice of experience!..field experience with a particular detector?.. NOTHIN' comes close!..does it for me!..
