My First Seated Liberty Coin

Ron M

New member
I had another fantastic day of detecting, I found a seated liberty 1888 dime today, my first seated coin. It was the second coin I dug this morning, the first was a 1976 penny. I also found two wheaties and a 1893 indian head at another location. The seated dime came from my parents house that I have been detecting since about 1980 or 1982 when I bought my first detector. After all the years of hunting around my parents house this my oldest and neatest coin I have ever found. It's amazing I missed it all them years, I have been over the spot I found it a dozen times or more, gotta LOVE that new VISION. The indian and 2 wheats also came from a place I hunted last year with my DFX. My confidence grows every time I use this detector, the discrimination and id are amazing. The only time I have seen the vdi varying is when the old wheaties or indians are encrusted then they come in around 52-58 vdi. I never believed this detector could be much better than my DFX when bought it, I figured a nice colored screen and cordless headphones which would of been ok with me, I sure was wrong. Although I will never get rid of my dfx, its going to get used much less.

Ron,

Congratulations Ron, first are always nice to find. Keep up the good work with your detector.

Congratulations Ron, she is a beauty.

Thanks everyone, that is what makes our sport so fun, you never know what the next dig is going to produce, GOLD like Larry we hope. By the way congrats on that Larry, still dreaming of the day I dig one.

How exciting that find must have been. Why do you think the Vision picked up on it whereas before your DFX didn't?

You notice you and a couple others are the only one to post and just this post alone makes me want to go out and buy one.Well the weekend is over and don't see very many post with finds .So thanks for the pics and when you dug up that seated dime how long did it take till you realized what it was i bet you started to hunt a little harder after that. You should send that pic and post to whites maybe they will post it.

Hi Davidtn, It was very exciting, and im not really sure why I missed it all them years with all my other detectors, not just my dfx. The only thing i can think of is i had the 5.3 coil on my vision from my dfx. I hunted that spot with my dfx but not with the small coil.

Hi Fred, When I dug my plug and pulled it out it was stuck to the bottom and fell back in the hole heads up, I seen that and my jaw about hit the ground. That is the oldest coin by far from that yard, I havent even found an indian there yet. I did hunt harder but didnt find any more coins going to try agian today, the snow storm missed us. God Luck HH.

It was only 3" thats why i cant believe i missed it all them years. I live in Michigan, west side mid state by Ludington.

Hi Ron, sorry about your Spartans last night,
but you should still have an excellent team next year.

The DFX missed em at 3" ???
Makes me want to revisit all my old spots again.

GREAT PICS!!
Randy

Nice finds!! I'm chomping at the bit waiting for my Vision to come in. It should be here any day now. I'm with you I will keep my DFX for now. It is still a great machine, I found an 1918 Wheaty yesterday in a worked out area that is full of iron. Good luck this season.

Hi Rb, State still had a great season, I knew they would have a tough time based on the previous game. I would hit all your old spots agian i truely believe no spot is cleaned out. I still dont understand how i missed that coin over the years. I hunted it with my 5000D, my GTA 1000, my DFX, and I should have found it with any of those detectors, you never get them all.

Thanks Fire Fighter 43, The vision is a great detector but if you hunt high trash areas I highly recomend 5.3 coil that 10" is to big for spots like that. Its much easier locking on to targets and especially pinpointing. Good Luck HH.
