My First Deuce!

Way to go Neil

Nice one congrats.:twodetecting::whites::cheers:

A little corrosion, but your ground was pretty easy on it. Our 2 centers and IH's come out with a bad case of the greenies, some of them a real pretty green.

That is a nice one Neil.

I would call this one "bad" for my area. Here is one my buddy found a week ago 35 miles from me:

Wow

Hi Neil--

It looks like the top, corroded, 2 cent piece is the rare Small Motto variety. It has two visible diagnostics: The wide "D" in GOD and the leaf stem is also visible! It's good that you posted two 1864 two centers so that the differences are obvious to all. Great find!

Happy Hunting!

Neil, Congrats on your 2 cent piece. :cheers: Yours looks great compared to the one I found back in March. Like Larry said they come out of our ground GREEN.

Not a great find, but exciting just the same! My first two cent piece. 1864.

Congratulations on your first 2 cent piece. I'd say that is a terrific find.

I had a feeling that this was the Small Motto variety, not that it matters much in this condition but upon closer examination, I think it's a Large Motto.

Hi Neil--

In that scan I can't see the "D" in GOD. And the leaf stem is clearly that of a large motto. Is that the SAME coin as the corroded one that you used as a comparison to your buddies nice 2 center after a cleaning? The corrosion CAN play tricks on these old eyes, especially when I don't have the opportunity to physically examine a coin under magnification hahahah!

Either way it's great to dig a 2 cent piece!

Happy Hunting
