My first 1/2 Real from1715 fleet.

I posted some pics on the Garrett forum. My wife is still in Florida and has the small cobs with her. I will post photos when she returns. Thanks for your interest. :thumbup:

FYI Cob comes from the Spanish cabo de barra which means from the end of the bar from which the blank for the coin was cut. The blank was then placed between two dies and whacked with a hammer impressing the designs from the dies on each side of the coin. The coin was then passed to an assayer who would weigh the coin and trim any excess to reach the appropriate weight for the denomination of the coin. The silver coins ranged from one-half Real to 8 Reals (pieces of eight). Two silver pieces of eight equaled one escudo or doubloon.
