My F4 and I are "Clad Kings" Any suggestions?

Frank I have been sitting here watching all the replies to question. There is nothing wrong with your detector or you right at the moment. As the road of experience lengthens you will start to get it, and older silver coins and gold will start to show up. 30 hours isn't much time. I have 92 hunts on my F70 this summer. That is 92 days out in the field. I have gone through 5 sets of batteries @ 40 hours or more a set. That is something like 200 hours this summer. I really went through 6 sets of batteries but I can't count the last set because I left the detector on after hunt #91.
As far as finding silver coins. I have found silver coins in tot lots and schools playgrounds and on the beaches. My silver and gold are found by accident. I am out just coin hunting and having fun. Most of my coins are in the 1" to 5" range. My coins are Quarters @17%, Dimes @18%, Nickels @10% and pennies @55%. So you pick up a lot of pennies and also pick up a lot of trash. If you get tired trash just say to yourself boy this detector really works good there was a target there as it showed. Have fun and enjoy the hobby. Thanks for reading and Happy Trails....Z

I wanted to thank everyone for the replies and words of encouragement and offer an update.

I did find my first silver quarter, a 43 if I remember correctly, I've also found two silver rings and maybe 20 more wheaties. I'll post some pictures of all of it at the end of the summer. My techniques certainly are much better due to your help and an additional 30 hours of practice.

I do have a couple of questions to ponder. I have been working a park near an elementary school that is very close to home. I continue to find clad everywhere (the rings came from here too). I've found quite a few mid sixties coins, but no silver coins. I am just curious on your thoughts, do you think it is probable the filed has been stripped of silver by previous MD"s and if so, how come I continue to find so much from the sixties? If it hasn't been stripped and I know the field has existed pretty much as is from at least the 40's why no silver?

Finally, at one end of the field there are overgrown areas that used to have bleachers. I have tried going in there with a 4", but man it is tough to dig and chock full of trash. I am thinking that late fall or early spring would offer me a better chance to dig the area out, does that make sense?

Frank

Has the field been stripped of silver? Likely not. Previous MDs may have come & took their share, but you found silver rings as well as old clad, so that is proof enough that they didn't take everything. When ever I hunt a beach & find pull tabs, I am happy because that means that the previous MDs weren't digging those signals. And by not digging pull tabs, they are missing out on the gold rings as well.

this is my first year as well-to date i have found 2 barber half dollars, one franklin, 18 silver dimes (mostly mercs), over 50 wheat backs, 7 injuns, 1 seated quarter, and all sorts of clad. The more ground you go over-the better. Your odds go sky high if you can continue to go over new ground. Maybe i have the luxury of being in the midwest with less md'rs-but the possibillities are endless! Go slow, learn your machine, and dig everything with a good tone! The more you dig-the more you'll learn what your machine thinks is what-The silver/older pennies will come with the swings. my f75 doesn't discriminate old from new when it come to silver quarters/dimes/halves. They all come up the same. You just need to go over the old stuff vs. the new. Don't get discouraged-it will come with time :)
