I'm still trying to recover...my sleep is all messed up still :sleepy: Must be all that partying in room 215 (oh wait, that was Brad in there :buds:) No wonder Brad didn't hunt with us Sunday ;) heh heh
Anyhow, I finally stay awake enough to fix up my DIV display case. This is the best stuff, & I still have bags full of iron buckles & unknown junk...

Yes, I'm really gunna play up this Rhode Island thing as far as I can take it :D

I'd play that R.I. thing up too! Those are great buttons. You got a nice variety of stuff especially the bullets. Congratulations "Ring Tail Daddy" :please: I've got to get the electrolysis thing going too. I have a gallon ziploc bag full of those buckles and iron "stuff". One of these days..... Like you, I've been trying to catch up on the Zzzzzzzzzz's!

and those finds give you every right to play it up Bill.

Party in Brad's room? Now that sounds like a blast!

Tom

Brad were you involved in the wild wild "after-party" that gut poor ol' Eddie BFL?? :buds: :ban:
Now that musta been SOME kinda party we missed ;) I'm just glad our room was WAYYYYYY down the other end of the hotel :D

The night before there was just a slight chance of The 2nd RI corps being somewhere in the vicinity of the nearby Brandy train station. Then to top it off, both RI's came from a CSA hill.....
Maybe the RI dude took out all those rebels himself :starwars:
(Did I just say "train station") :lmfao:

I'm pretty good at id'ing modern trash (yep..thats canslaw) but relic hunting is all new to me. I just look and listen trying to build an education

I see small bullets, a smooth one, some with two rings, some with three rings which I guess are called 'three ringers'. I see some with the small ring on the bottom which I am guessing are the 'ringtails', and one in the middle that may just be a squashed three ringer?

Anyway...give me a bullet education, would you Bill?

HH

for using all metal mode...but that's another story ;)
This picture might help. The 3 ringed ones are very common (bottom row of my case). But, the site we dug offered a great variety of others, & I gut very few 3 ringed "Minie balls" which was kinda cool. We spent the entire first day yanking out CSA bullets all day. We could have filled a whole case with ringtails, but wanted a change & Day 2 & 3 we worked trash in the Yankee camps......
These one's in my hand are considered CSA types. The one with no stripes is called an Enfield. The 2 ringers here are Gardners, also CSA. The ones with the thingy sticking out the base are called "Ringtail Sharps", & I think was told CSA Calvary. The tiny pistol bullets I have no idea yet. Someone said one looked CSA.
Just seems that different makers came out with their own bullets. Kinda keeps things interesting that both sides didn't use the exact same thing. Tony gut a couple interesting ones too.......

Some of those guys have forgotten more than we'll ever know!

The one on the Left is a Sharps Carbine
The one in the Middle is .54 Merrill Carbine
The one on the Right is .50 Wilkinson Carbine (Macon Arsenal)

Here are the bases

I have learned a TON about relics in the last week.

They tell me the Wilkinson Carbine is a GOOD one! :super:

Nice Bill!!!

Looks like you also have a 54 caliber and 58 caliber Gardner in your hand. Did you get any one ring Gardners? Ive found them but they are much rarer than the 2 ring.

You may have some good pistol bullets but it looks like the one in your hand is a common colt 44 caliber pistol bullet. Not sure though, looks like it in your picture.

There is a farm I hunt in that area where Ive found all the same bullets. No where near the quanity you saw though, as always, I wasnt the first one there. I did manage to pull a CS tongue from the site and my buddy got a Reed shell. Havent hit much there lately though. Hard to find good sites you can "legally" hunt in that area that arent pounded to death.

Was nice to have you visit before the dig! Come on down anytime!!

I found a fired Wilkinson like yours at Brandy in decent shape. I tried to find it to show Bill when he was over but Im not sure where it is.

Thats the only one Ive ever found.

Yours looks GREAT Tony, great find!

& showing us some places to "warm up". Plus, letting us mingle with the Locals at the Battlefield Diner,,,,,,
Just don't ask for a Mr. Cooper :lmfao:

Last winter at Ogunquit Beach, Maine I dug these boolits in a deep trough in the beach which also produced a V-Nick. They were deep ~12 inches, and pulled with a CZ20. I never got an ID, but the style looks period, the longer one shows an impact mark.

I'd appreciate any opinions.

until I started slurrin' words, which I usually reserve for around the ladies. :stars: The wild bunch kept it up for another 6 hours after I left! :buds:I went back to my room to get some more cigars and a little voice said that I'd better quit :nono: or I wouldn't be hunting the next day. :puke:

well done! :)

much better finds than I had for the week.
I love those ringtailed Sharps and the keeper.
Wonder where the NCO plate was that matched the keeper?
