My AM/SSB CB Radio Collection

I've never been big on side-band, but that could change.
The challenge was always to see what you could do on AM. I've talked to folks from the East Coast to Honolulu, and from Quito, Ecuador to Gnome, Alaska.

AM is great too! I have had some nice contacts on AM 27.250...I remember using a Ranger RCI 2950 on FM and I had some nice DX contacts...It surprised the heck out of me...That was back in 2002.

I found a nice old BK Precision 1040 CB Servicemaster to add to my test equipment...It arrived in the mail yesterday.

My last rig included a Varmint XL-1000 and a Hy-Gain Big Gun II. I talked all over this hemisphere with it.....on AM.

Looking at what's available currently in the way of beams, and a "Y-Beam" may be in my future.

That Varmint XL-1000 would put some fire in the wire!!!

Even though it didn't put out a full 1K, it did!
Coupled with the 36X multiplication factor of the Big Gun II (full wave quad) I figured I had an honest 32,000 watts effective radiated output. To keep peace with the neighbors I didn't light it up between 5:00-12:00pm, because they couldn't watch TV, listen to the radio, or talk on the telephone if I was on. We had a radio in the house that couldn't be plugged in when I keyed, because I came through it even when it was turned off. If you stood on my roof holding a 4' florescent tube in your hand, it would light up when I choked that D-104. I used to joke about coming through the toaster.

That is a nice antenna! You would have really got out with that setup! I remember a guy in Saskatoon running a Henry 2K! I could here him on my AM crystal radio that I built...He was at least a mile away from my location.

Several years ago I use to run the Browning Golden Eagle. And, the Tram. They were both tube type. The tube type had better ears. Almost zero bleed over.
Silver Eagle and Golden Eagle Microphone. Those out there in CB land loved to hear those Eagles scream!
MoonRaker 4 Antenna Specialists.
If I could hear them, I could talk to them.
Maco Modulator Modulation talks! Carrier means almost nothing!
I miss those CB radios.
Someone stole mine!
A friend called me one day, and said I believe I was talking to your set of Eagles this morning,
Lets' go get them! We drove over a hundred miles. He was on the radios directing us into his house to sell some of my electronics.
In just a few minutes I stood up, and I slapped my Browning, and some of the other electronics of mine, and said that is mine! That is mine!
To keep from digressing any longer I started talking about an old hobby, and it brought back memories.
