My ace250 did not float:sad:

I was wading across a creek this morning and slipped. my detector went about half way under just for a second but that was enough. it was not on when it went in but, once I got out on the bank I got really really stupid and turned it on to see if it still worked. why I did this......cause I are a idiot. I guess I was so worried about it working that I wasn't thinking about screwing it up. Any way, it came on for a second and went back out. I probably fried it. I got it home and opened it up and took a paper towel and dabbed the few drops up then I laid it in the sun with a fan on it. I did get two hours of hunting in. I had to stop every few feet and scrap the woodsy compost out of the way. found many, many old nails and bits of iron and bits and pieces of an old crock. I finally notched out Iron but the old nails were also showing up as .50. That was irritating the first time or two cause it was hitting with a great tone that I just new had to be a coin. Then I got A hit that kept jumping from .50 to1.00 with a great tone. but when I pinpointed it it was showing me a fairly big target, I was going to move on but I had to know what that thing was. It was an old pulley about six inches in diameter. That's when I decided to get a break from that area and wade across the creek and try over there for awhile. If my ace dries out and works that's great. if It don't I'll email Garrett and talk to them about it. I know the warranty wont cover my stupidity but if Garrett can save my detector for less than what I paid for it I'll be happy.knowing that I can't just grab my detector and go is not a good feeling. time to consider a back up.

:usaflag:Aww man that sucks....my worst nightmare realized. I'm done waterhunting for a while now.

It definately would'nt hurt to contact Garrett. At the very least they can fix it for you at your cost. But I will never under-estimate Garrett again. They may fix it for nothing or send you a new one. I got a brand new Pro-pointer from them after I sent my old one in to be repaired...because I was being stupid with it. Think positive....and also remember that the 250 is very reasonably priced. Good luck..

I sure hope you get it fixed soon..and like
Mcdave said NEVER underestimate Garrets servie
I too had a propointer I messed up and told them that

a few days later a NEW one at no cost aririved..

Ill be a :garrett: fan for life if not longer ..... ??????? :look:

I wonder if theres :detecting: in heaven... assuming i get there

Im SURE theres :detecting: down below ....
a HUGE FIELD filled with :pulltab: and Coke cans ...

Hope you ACE gets fixed

Bad break. Let it dry out 1 day longer than you think is enuff.

When I repaired TVs we saved a few with spills by drying with compressed air after an alcohol wash.

If that doesn,t work call Garrett & drink the rest of the alcohol.

Hope it works out. I stupidly used my 2500 in heavy rain once and it started acting up. A few hours under a warm lightbulb did the trick for me. That was over two years ago and she still seems to find a coin or two. I'm sure customer service will take care of you well if it's broken. Keep us posted.

A blow dryer on low works great along with the alcohol which rapidly absorbs and evaporates any water present.

I'm sorry you liquidated your Ace. I do remember that Uncle Willy said, use it if it floats your boat, but I never thought that he meant literally.
I know how you feel. I flew a radio controlled glider into the drink once with the same end result to the electrics.

I wouldn't count it out just yet.. Give it time to really dry out good, and it
might be ok. I did the same thing on a HD cable box a few weeks ago.
I had it setting on the floor almost under my chair, and I came in from the
rain and sat down. Well... I dripped water in the holes on the cable box,
and it started wigging out, and shut down. I let it dry some, and then tried it.
Still acting weird.. Waited some more, and tried again. Still not right, but seemed
slightly better as far as the display. I let it dry out another hour or two, and it
finally started working again.
So I'd let it sit and get totally dry, and then try it again once you are fairly sure
it's dry. It might start working again. Water can bridge and short traces on
circuit boards and cause it to flake out even if the components are still OK.
If it let smoke out, or you smelled something burning, that is not a good sign.
But if nothing seemed to fry or burn or smell, you just might get lucky.
But it's got to totally dry out on the inside.
