my 3khz coil arrived today

When I first started using the 3 kHz, I also used the 4 tone audio. But if you give it a chance, you will have much better results using multiple tone mode. The reasoning is simple..... in single tone, two tone, 3-tone or 4-tone modes, the audio tones produced by targets with TID's of -2, -4, -6 and -8 will all provide the same sound. In multiple tone mode, they are each represented by a different tone. So if you are listening for the harmonics that I talk about, you will not hear them in any mode except multiple tone mode. Wow what a barage of posts, whew!! That was good, thanks Randy! So a 3 kHz coil in Multiple Tones(99 Tones) to tell the sound harmonics of iron better.

Another issue is you also proved a 3 kHz coil will still pick up a small thin gold ring with a good signal, with the same depth and almost just as good as the 6 HF DD except the numbers locked on a little better with the 6 HF DD. So when hunting old homesteads with a 3 kHz, a person will not miss an old gold ring lost years ago.

Goes4Ever, if you can, could you do me a favour and get a thin gold ring(higher the % of gold the better) and see how you new 3 kHz coils responds to it and let us know here. Also this will give you some confidence, as they say that the 18.75 kHz is the best for small gold BUT the 3 kHz will also work too.

I did check a gold ring on it, and it responds to gold just fine, no problems whatsoever.

I got a great test with the coil today by going to that old farm house, plenty of iron there and the coil seemed to really pick out the coins. And best thing is I dug ZERO iron today, I cannot remember the last time I was at a homestead and did not get fooled by deep iron giving a good signal. This coil seemed to really help me out! I am VERY pleased with this coil.

That's great to hear you didn't dig any unwanted stuff. Just remember......you never know what might be down there ready to:surrender:to the shovel. When you get in an open field with less iron this coil just might stay on the ole X 70 with places like you dig mostly. You'll have a fit at how much it likes copper and silver.

So that's 2 people now who confirm that the LF, 3 kHz is still good on small gold. I do not have a the LF coil so I wanted some feedback, thanks to you and Randy.

But a head to head comparison of the 9" LF Concentric vs the 9" HF Concentric with a small gold ring would be a good test to do. How much more depth would the HF get, large amount, a small amount, or no more at all?? (Not many people buy the 9" HF coil so the test may be hard to get results on, maybe Randy has a 9" HF?) What would be your guess on the results? I would guess about equal in depth but could be wrong.

I do have a 5 kHz Musky Advantage with my 7.5" DD(TS 800) coil and I tested my mothers very fine small yellow gold ring on it and it responds 100% fine with a loud signal and seemed deep in a air test.
