My 2nd hunt ever - I found a mans 18kt ring !!!!! Look at my finds from the Forest Preserve

I started out in the woods, but the snow didn't meld there, so I walked to recreation part of the preserve. The ground was frozen, so I just surface hunted. I am definitely going back, I got so many hits for quarters , dimes, nickels and pennies, you wouldn't believe it. I don't remember who said to check toboggan hills but I checked it out. I spent around 4 hours combing that hill and found a 18kt mans ring, and a earing (I think is just junk, not a diamond) a Junk necklace, some change and a few old pull tabs.

When I found the ring I saw it on the surface partially covered by some dead grass, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, I stood there for a good min just looking at it. Then I picked it up, after that I was so happy that I started to see rings everywhere I looked even though they weren't there, so I figured it was time to go home. And here I am telling you!!!!

It has "Art Carved 18kt" does anybody have a clue as to the value of it? the scale show is in ounces. 0.345oz

I was just hoping to find a silver quarter or a wheat cent, but I never even thought that I would find a gold ring, let alone a big mans ring, I figured that if i did find one, it would be a tiny woman's ring. But mine is solid with no ornamentation on it, just smooth gold ring. I'm so happy I bought my ace 250!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am going to go back next weekend and surface hunt more of the preserve, I can't wait!!!!!!

Hello, at current gold price of approx. 975.00 per oz, your ring would be worth 252.37 Hope this helps!

Now that I looked at your picture on the scale I am not sure what weight type you are using. Punch it into the online calculator and let us know.

This is the ring next to a quarter, see is big!!!

Sweet, my second hunt and my ace has already paid for it self, and then some. Now everything I find is purely profit!!!!!!!!!!!:wiggle:

I estimated the value based on the original post where it states the weight is in ounces. 0.345 would equal $252.37, 10.73 grams, 6.90 Dwts, etc. Nice find either way!

0.345 oz not grams. http://www.dendritics.com/scales/metal-calc.asp?WeightU=.345&Units=oza&Alloy=18K&PrOzt=&CurrencyN=USD&Markup=0 $230

What a fantastic find! Now the way I figure is gold is 975.00 oz and you have .345 oz of 18k (.750) gold. Then it would be around $229.00
Where on the hill did you find it? I have had some success on the lower part of the hills but have never found such a nice ring there.

Where would be a good place to buy a good scale that gives options for weight calculations and prefer portable so I can estimate in the field?

Try entering 0.345 instead of 0.315!!! Hey, it's a little more!

In the field you would hold the find in your right hand. Then put your digger in your left hand. Stretch both arms out as far as you can. If you fall down toward the right then rest assured it's a keeper.

lol, my hands are still shaking, lol yes 0.345

Hi Khouse, off topic a bit here but was wondering where you came up with Khouse? Also I asked earlier where you can buy a portable scale, ???

No, I was showing a penny, thats why I stood there for a good min just looking at it before I picked it up. I thought it was just a modern penny, but when I looked it was gold sitting right on the surface.

It's tied directly to my real name.
Here is your scale you asked for

I needed the extra weight calculation as we use it for the official weight on our Awana cars at church. It's similar to the pinewood derby. Get one of the ones with the two digits after the decimal point. They are accurate to less than.05 but not by much. They come from China and the sellers may say they offer warranty but don't bet on it.
