My 25 cent depth enhancement for garrett propointer ...

many of you already know this trick: I used an "S" hook from my parts box (just closed up the gaps), a piece of a zip tie, and 15" of electrical tape and VIOLA (why is it spelled that way but pronounced WAH-LAH), a sliding adjustment to double the depth on my propointer

watch this vid - he did something similar

This one explains the idea much better:

when someone first told me this trick, I did not believe it, until I tried it

you can't tape a coin to the side because as battery strength changes, you need to reposition coin. You could always put the coin in proper position and hold it each time you dig a plug, but my slider derivation is SO much easier

WTG FOR MODERN TECHNOLOGY ! :clapping:

This type of enhancement makes a surprising difference. I've seen it suggested to wear a largeish ring on the hand holding the pointer and move the ring up or down as needed.

My Propointer already picks up plenty deep. i want it to find the object in the hole my detector already found not detect metal objects 4" deep.

That is the best cheepist bestest cool way to do it I have ever seen , thanks for posting I am going to do that . WOW thats cool

I applied your cool Idea, this is great , and it works perfect , nice slide with just a little drag to keep it right in place

I tried it and it gives little additional depth, but mine is an older one. Not sure if that would make a difference. Glad it works for the rest of you.

is preloading, per say, the receive amplifier circuit.......when you take a piece of metal and place it along the handle and move it back and forth you are doing just that. It is nothing special or magic. Dpenind on how the probe is setup and calibrated it will take a certain amount of receive signal before it will respond with an audible tone. By placing a piece of metal closer and closer to the probe you start to increase the amount of receive signal it already has and it takes less and less to now make it respond to say a penny placed at the tip.
Works on the Minelab Pro Find as well.

I agree totally !!!! that is why it is called a Pinpointer to narrow down the point of contact with the target in the hole not show that it is still is 3 inches deeper if you listen to your detector it should already have given you a sense of depth ""JMHO though!"""

The initially reason to increase the sensitivity of a Garrett Pro-Pointer have obviously been overlooked/lost.............again.

Repeat: The "Super Tuning" first posted on the Australian Garrett Infinium LS Forum in 2009, was to increase the sensitivity to small Gold of 0.2 gram and smaller when Gold prospecting.

What would be the point in having a Pin Pointer if it do not have the sensitivity to small Gold as the detector in use for the purpose.

I for one use my pointer above ground to determine best spot to dig some targets are deeper than 2" so this mod does help for those occasions. It is a great idea for many, if you don't like it, don't use it. Great idea with the pullltab, recycling those damn things lol

Just because you have it doesn't mean you have to use,. at least you have the option in you want it.

Where can I find one of those pull tabs?

I have a few seasoned "pulltabs" that have already been field proven, previously buried and will enhance your pinpointer into a less accurate metal pointer so that you;ll need to dig around to find that object that's causing that annoying chirp rather than have the pinpointer nearly touch the item before it alerts you... Willing to part with them at a reasonable price of say $2 a piece... Bulk quantities available for clubs at a dozen for a $1.

Also running a special on bottle caps and rusty nails... Contact me for special pricing..

Now if I can just find a pull tab to use for this!?!?! LOLOL

Anyone using the propointer is missing it's full potential by not employing what I first knew it as "the nickel trick" I don't know how many nickels I left behind in the sod before I got a little smarter. I tried the pulltab route and cable tie but had trouble sliding it with gloves on ---too much twisting and varying drag. What worked better for me was a slightly flattened ferrule from 1/4" copper compression fitting or one of the same with the tail on it used for plastic tubing. Big enough to give you some grip without getting in the way. What works best is an antenna if you can find one small enough
