MXT nothing special for coins

I have found coins deeper than 6 inches. You might want to check your settings on your MXT and make sure you are adjusting them properly. Kelley (Texas) :)

I have a lot to still learn and on your advice just ordered the book. I have a 12" Super coil which I never use, a 10x12 SEF Butterfly Coil and a 4x6 Excllerator coil. I primarily use the 4x6 in trashy areas and the SEF everywhere else. I primarily hunt parks and home sites. Where is the best place to use the 12" super?

I haven't used my Super 12" a lot but with it being a large concentric the BEST place would be a wide open, trash free area with low mineralization. You may not find that so a decent combination of these three factors would be a likely place to use it.

when I was looking for a good all around detector, I wanted one that when I was at a ghost town or at some old mines
it would perform well on finding gold, I also wanted one when I was in one of these areas that I could also detect for coins
and relics and wouldn't have to go back to my car and pull out another detector, I live up in the mountains where there are
streams that are in an gold area, there are also old house foundations that you have to hike to, I take it down to the city when
it Snows and hunt coins with it, there are other detectors that are excellent for just coins or just maybe Gold and relics, the mxt
dose all three well, and with practice will keep up with most of them. No matter how simple a detector is, there is a learning curve
on all of them, If you are looking just for coins, take your time, and look around, read forums, talk to other people you might find
a detector that dosn"t cost as much and dose a great job for what you are looking for. the ground I detect in is high in minerals
I have to use dd type coils to get the performance I want, mxt has one of the best grd balance features, and goes deep, I
like my machine, opinions are like body parts everyone has some, so keep asking around, good luck

Hey Jim it just takes time to learn the mxt I've had mine a few months now and still learning things all the time.
I also got the book the mxt edge and it will help you I have read it a couple times and still going back and re-reading it and it makes more sense each time to just read then hunt and read some more.
I also use the 4x6 shooter coil most of the time in the parks around here and it is a great coil in very heavy trash but you want get a lot of depth with it I'd say I haven't found anything below 5" with it and I really don't expect to but it's not due to the mxt it's the nature of the small coil.
Before I got it I used the stock 950 and got way deeper on targets than 5" like I found a small 22 rifle bullet that had been fired that measured 7" deep on the mxt and when I dug it I checked the measurements with the marks on my digger and it was right on 7" and I hadn't had the mxt very long then and my gain was around the preset marks or might have been a tad lower because I've just recently started to crank it up in the + numbers but I also was in an open area of the park the large coil was just to much for the trash in heavy traffic areas it gave me a fit but now I can search with ease.
I figure when I find all I can with the smaller coil then I'll go back with a little bigger one for some added depth and work the places all over again so just hang with it and read that book and all you can on the forums about the mxt and you'll really start to enjoy it, I guess the best thing I could say is if it's trashy don't worry so much about depth pick out the goodys close to the top with the small coil then the bigger coil should work much better.

To answer your question on the 12" coil I'd say the best place to use it would be open areas in parks, fields, and woods where you want be finding a lot of pulltabs and foil that's been throwed down.
You could try it anywhere but always keep your smaller coil close by just in case it gets to rough with the large one then you can just swap them out and keep swinging same if your using the small one if you not getting tons of hit you might pop on the large one and give it a try.
If you haven't done so I would also suggest you buy the lower shaft for each coil you use that makes it much easier and faster to change them out not to mention it will save messing up the hardware and having to buy I don't think the lower shaft is very expensive my dealer throws them in when you buy a new coil so I didn't have to buy mine.
