Mx5 at park

Blow away is strong words. Unless you have used the mx5 dont be to sure. Ive used the v3i and used the vx3 for a year and a half and i had a couple targets the mx5 found that my v3i barely made a sound. I did try other filters and various settings and still didnt. And besides all of that the mx5 is deep as heck super fun and light. A pleasure to use.

My 2 friends use the V3i and mx5, while i have the V3i , i been using my AT-Gold. Well anyways we been comparing the 3 and i have to say out of the 3 the V3i blow us away. And that is cause this guy been running and knows how to run the V3i. But for someone that just gets the V3i and not sure what there doing . That changes the game. HH, GS

I'm with you groundscanner, I would be suspicious of anyone who claims the MX5 will outperform the White's flagship V Series. I also doubt that White's would even make a $500 detector that performs better than their top of the line. I do believe that Bill is getting better results with his MX5 but not because it is a better detector........ some other factors are involved with the V3i's being used.

Yes knowing your detector will make things better. I did do some air tests and getting 14" on a quarter with a clear signal in doors with my mx5 Thats about the same as v3i. Maybe more :).

I do agree larry. Something is going on. I did really well with my v3i. Only thing i can figure is my buddy and myself must really suck at using v3i because .. No way should a detector costing 1/3 the price out perform or match performance of the flagship model. I wish i was making this up but im not. Im thinking all targets we tested were mixed with lots of rusty trash. Recovery speed on the mx5 is insane fast. And slowing down to almost still dont seem to effect it. I dont have an answer. Noone has to trust or believe me. These are results of me which have been using whites machines since 1978 and my buddy which has a couple years v3i experience. Only thing i can think of is the mx5 loves the sef 10x12 coil better and gets better results with it. ?? Or jts our soil which my buddy and i talked about the other day when we were trying to figure it out ourselves. We are stumped.

I have the V3i and will have an MX5 pretty soon I hope. I bought one but sent it back to Whites because it had the tone change problem. I am thinking because of the holidays it may take a few weeks to get it back but I hope not. In my initial testing I did before I sent it back it did get pretty decent depth but not as deep as my V3i. I have some known test targets buried that the Mx5 could not hit that the V3i will but they are deep. Also the TID seemed a bit more stable on my V3i than it did on the MX5, especially on the low conductors like nickels. When I get it back I will try to do some video with it. I have 5 coils that will work on it. I can do some air tests with each coil and if the weather warms up enough I will try to take it to one of my real trashy spots and give it a workout.

Im sure the v3i is deeper. The only spots i have hunted and compared are iron infested sites. My front yard is littered with square nails and for some reason the mx5 hit and 8" deep target. Solid 42/43 vdi and good clear smooth tone. I marked the spot put that coil on my v3i set it up and did not get a good reading at all from any angle. I tried different settings filters single frequency etc. still very choppy tone almost no tone and vdi numbers from -80-+90 or so they were all over. Now this was my first target that i compared these two detectors my thought was if v3i says its trash then i has to be right because its so much better and i just had got the mx5 so i had no clue if its a big fat liar or not lol i dug the target.. It was a shield nickel at a solid 8 inches deep. I dont remember if i pulled trash from the hole too or not but i was mad and happy at same time. I really didnt know what to think. Only thing i knew is i had a shield nickel in my hand that i myself could not find with my v3i. Someone more experienced than i could have found that nickel. After i found that nickel ive tested quite a few targets and i can say this,,,, for me in my hands the mx5 is more fun and simple and it just finds good targets that i cant with my v3i,, my buddy also tried comparing and he did agree that even though the v3i did show something in the ground he would not have dug it. Could it be user error? Or trash in the hole masking good target? I dont know to be honest. All i do know the mx5 will find a nickel at 8" and an indian head penny at 8-9" with a pretty solid signal. That alone is good enough for me. ;) hope someone with better v3i skills can do some comparing or not lol. I never meant that the mx5 was better than any other detector .. I just wanted to let people know some results that i got and my buddy got from a few targets we compared .. For $500 my opinion is great detector its more compact and solid,,, its like its build more rugged with less parts to break. I know ive broke my pinpoint trigger on several occasions and always keep a spare lol. My buddy said he broke the display off his v3i last year when it fell over while leaning against the wall i believe is what he said. So anyway merry christmas everyone hope everyone gets a new detector!! Lol

Thanks for the post. Keep us updated on your finds. Sounds like you and the MX5 are going to get along good....Lol Merry Christmas to you too.....

I think the comparison on the V3i and the MX5 would be very interesting. On the other hand I am impressed by what I have read thus far on the MX5. For the money it sounds as if the MX5 will be a good fit for many people, me included. I would be really curious to see how it compares to an M6. Even more interesting for me would be a comparison between the MX5 and a Vaquero. I currently use Tesoro but am willing to try another detector from a quality company like Whites. Right now the M6, MX5, and that new SST really get my attention. There is a good chance a Whites may be in my future this spring!

Having had the M6 for a few years and recently acquiring a Vaquero which I'm really also liking I am sure you will enjoy any of the three White's detectors you are contemplating .
If I was looking right now I think I would go for the MX5 . Originally I was going to get an MXT but I really got an insane deal on the M6 . I think now the MX5 may just be the best of both worlds .

A safe and Merry Christmas + New Years to all !

Hey dirt doctor, thanks for the advice. If I go with the Whites, I am leaning towards the MX5. It will be interesting to see how the Vaq stacks up against the Whites. My guess is they will both do very well and any advantage would be slight if any.

Ive used most tesoro detectors. My opinion is the mx5 is better. But mostly due to features. Depth i think mx5 is a little deeper but thats it. My friend and i hunted a farmhouse today. We found 1 coin each. He found a 1905 v nickel and i got an 1898 indian. Both were deep about 8-9" his had other metal in hole with it.

Ive only dug a few bottle caps. They do ring up different , not as solid but i havent dug enough to be good at it. I usually dig any halfway good signal anyway.
