Mx5 at park

Well-known member
Went detecting with a buddy yesterday. Rain stopped temp was about 60 and perfect.. My buddy was using his v3i. First target i locate with good tone and vdi 75-83. I have him check with v3i and gets very jumpy vdi numbers all over and tone isnt good . He said he most likely would not dig it. I dug the target and it was a wheat penny at 8in. Then he finds a target very iffy and circling target got a signal in one direction. I tried with mx5 got a good clear tone and good vdi 75-83 i said yep another wheaty He dug it and jt was a wheaty at 7" or so. I went on to find a V nickel,2 buffalo nickels, an indian head penny at 9"! And 12 wheat pennies along with 2 rings. He found 2 wheaties and 1 buffalo nickel. This is a park we have hunted many many times with v3i's vx3 mxtpro m6 and several others. Plus we have seen other detectorists there with etracs. Very good day with the mx5. With the glitch fixed sure makes this detector a pleasure to use. I havent been this happy about a detector since the mxtpro came out ! We were both using the same coils sef 10x12. Most everything i found was mixed with lots of trash . Sometimes there was so much trash in the hole i was about to give up thinking thats all there was .. But keeping at it paid off big time for me. I am more than happy with my mx5. My son n law and friend are also so impressed that they are buying themselves each one. Merry christmas!

Dam Basstrackerman, you are making me want to jump ship on Tesoro and get one!

Yes you cannot lock it. But it works very well without it. Today i went back to the old park and met my buddy there he was using his v3i Well i shut him out. :). I found another 8 wheaties a buffalo nickel and several other older jefferson nickels along with a ring and a silver heart. Also 3 silver dimes a barber and 2 mercs he checked a few of my digs with his v3i he was really getting nothing. Almost no audio response and vdi's jumping everywhere. The mx5 gave me very good audio and pretty solid vdi's. One target was a bullet mixed with nails and another was a mercury dime. His v3i could not give a audio and very jumpy vdi. He found total .... 1 memorial penny thats it. Needless to say im pretty sure he is gonna buy an mx5 because its so simple and great results. I am having sooo much fun!!

Man Bill, you're makein that MX-5 sound gooood!------Is the vdi #'s the same on the MX-5 as the M6?------Whattcha gonna do with your v3i & m6 now?------I'm afraid if I got another detector (MX-5), my wife would beat me relentlessly. :lmfao:-----Gotta think---lemme see now---how could I get one of these buggars without risking great bodily harm (me)?? ;)----------Del

I still haven't sent mine in to get the "glitch" fixed with the tones, but I'm still loving the machine.

...And yes, VDI's are very close if not exactly the same as with the M6.

It's easy Del , just do what I have to do...........let her get something that costs 5 times as much .:surrender:

It all sounds good! ...but I wonder how those people with the V3i or V3 feel.

My my perspective - it just goes to show a person that it does not take
a bunch of bells and whistles to have a great detector.

I know I am getting one!! I'm glad to hear you are having so much fun with the
MX5.

Keep the reports coming!

Another thing i noticed is my mx5 sounds off really good on 22 short shells. Even at good depth but my buddies v3i wasnt hardly making a peep on them ??? He checked and changed some settings but still didnt help much if any. Using the sef 10x12 on both machines. So idk what i do know is this park has been hunted really hard forever and i noticed targets drying up over last year or so. We hardly find anything there. Until the mx5 anyway. We mainly worked side by side but far enough so no cross talk. I dont know what to say as far as why its hitting on targets that the v3i did not except that there were always other junk in the hole and the mx5 is lightening fast and the v3i is alot slower. Heck i dont know. My buddy wasnt too happy. Im hoping he posts on here to tell his side.

I think, we need more MX5 videos... It would be great, if someone could upload some examples.

I for sure would like to see an air test on common clad and silver coins!

It all comes down to who is running the machine, but i do believe the V3i will blow the Mx5 away. With knowing how to set the V3i up, it can be set up like the Mx5 . But the Mx5 can not do what the V3i can. Like i said , it all depends if you can /know how to run it. Merry Christmas Folks.
