Musketeer?

I took the musketeer out this morning to a park i usually take the tesoro to and did great,a deep 1917 mercury dime,a 1910 penny,a metal drivers license-the person was born in 1899 and a few other cool goodies, got the 15"WOT waiting for me at the post office from detector depot, can't wait to go back to the park with that.I used to have a sovereign, maybe i did not give it enough time but i swear i do not think it would go as deep on coins like the musky,i did like the smooth operation of the sov though,i really kind of miss the sov but it is really nice to know the musky can really keep up like this,it also has a bunch of after market coils offered for it,the 15"wot,the accelerator 5,12,14,and 18 inch wow!,what would that be like on a musky a 18" coil, thanks for sharing crazyman, for i live on the coast of S.C.and want to start beach hunting more.

Thanks everyone!
Great thread! would a straight rod be better handling and balance or the Whites?

Best Regards,
Steve

Hey tonisteve,i hipp mount the musketeer and can work the stock s-shaft ok,Minelab claims they make detectors for the military and i swear these shafts have to be the ones they sell to the military for mine detectors, they are just so heavy! that is what everyone complains about, and a lot of detectorist claim more comfort and control with a straight shaft with the pistol type grip.I hipp mounted my sovereign and still used my musketeer s-shaft,because the straight shaft thing is new to me,but it does make sense that it would have more control.Even the straight shafts that come with the sovereign are heavy to me.Well since i am investing in larger coils for the musketeer then it will really be heavy then, even with hipp mount control box.I found a company that makes a straight shaft for the musketeer and sovereign, and also a cool looking x-terra straight shaft.www.andersondetectorshafts.com(anderson minelab gold shaft-0824)(anderson x-terra shaft, with spring pin holes and stand wow! -0827) I have been detecting since the 70's and the sovereign and musketeer have to be the best built detectors i have seen and used, and plus the fact that they preform great also is a good thing.I am no fan of TID unit's since the day whites came out with that stupid annoying commercial, you can see what's in the ground before you dig it up! that one commercial screwed up detecting for years, you tell someone about a detector and the first thing they say is it a whites, with a whites you can see what's in the ground before you dig it up! but i don't want to see into the ground, surprise me,visual id's are not my thing,i never needed it,it takes extra power, another electronic part to break, you loose depth on id units,i would only use one if my hearing went bad, they are for baby's,that's why i won't even get a x-terra type unit. This is what minelab whats you to do,forget about the good well built detectors now that they have us hooked and start buying the cheap made digital design detectors, and they will then make them overseas, don't buy one,it will not holed up such as a sov or musky,i have been into electronics since 1985,they are trying to bait and switch.remember, knobs, toggle switches,no id screen,no touch button's,no vcr type menu screens, these are outdoor units,be tough minelab or you will start to lose the game.

hiya ,,i had a similar problem with tones on the g.t. but it was low batteries??? the other thing is ground balance,or coil fault,,why dont you phone minelab,,they will give you the sp on the fault,,and if it is the coil,,you can buy a replacement used for not a lot,,,best of luck,,,comcat,,:ukflag:

A very good detector for just about any hunting situation. Excellent depth, super fast recovery speed and great iron discrimination. Here's mine mounted on a Whites rod.

Where did you get that straight shaft for the Musky?

Now I want a musketeer....too bad they are no longer in production. Anybody have a lead on one?

I'll never let go of mine, it too is mounted on a Whites MXT/DFX rod... I love it!! It's my go to field detector since in fields I dig all anyway. Fast or slow swing speed makes no difference, nor does increasing discrim when it comes to depth... it's always consistently deep. I pull coins in fields down to 12" with clear crisp signals. With the 15" WOT I pulled a cut in half Half Reale at 6" last week... That's about the size of your pinky nail and hit crisp and clear at depth using a huge coil... Buy one!! They show up on the classifieds every once and a while for around $250-300
