Musketeer?

jspoon

New member
I've heard rumors that this detector is the little sleeper that no one talks about much and the rumor is this thing goes real deep, I have an M6 now.
So is it true, will it go as deep as an SE?

John, the Musketeer is a good beep and go unit and would be out classed for coin hunting by both the Sovereign or Explorer.Though the Musky is deep it has an appetite for rusted bottle caps and like most beep and gos you will dig a lot of trash.By the way its heavy and does need a straight shaft like the Sovereign.

Hay jspoon, have had both detectors,if used right the musketeer will out preform, even the sovereign, due to the musketeers ability to ground balance, and operates at lower frequency,i believe something like 5kHz,the musketeer is a good all around detector, found nice relics while coin hunting,it will not let large iron type objects go even in higher disc mode, which could be good if you like to find relics while coin hunting, the sovereign switches out of manual ground balance in disc mode, and goes to auto track, which is were a detc such as musketeer could keep up with it,even though sov has BBS technology, which in my view does more for smoothness of operation, such as trash separation, output tone and frequency than depth. For weight if you do not feel like ordering hipp mount bag,you can look around such as walmart for right size belt bag any were,i found one and used with sov,cut small hole in bottom of bag for cable, the bag i found completely zipped over top and completely protected control box while hipp mounted, would not use either detc, sov or musk with out hipp mount,it's just to heavy, but good detectors.

Hello, I would second that about the Musky. I have and Explorer SE, and had an XS. I have used Explorers extensively. I also had two Soveriegns, and many other machines. My Musketeer will meet or exceed the depth of any machine I have used. It is a sleeper. It also has a super fast recovery time. The super depth and super fast recovery time will get you coins others miss. It is a great underated machine. It has a drawback, it likes the steel crowncaps. It some places it is hard to tolerate this trait. But on the plus side, it rejects nails better than any machine I have used, it is great pulling goodies out of nails. It is a unique machine. It has a permanent place in my arsenal. It will get stuff in certain places that nothing else will. But no machine is perfect.

THE MACHINE SEEMS FINE WHEN THE COIL IS DISCONNECTED,BUT GOES MAD(THE PARROTS IN THE JUNGLE SYNDROME)THAT SOMEONE ON HERE MENTIONED BUT I CANT FIND THE POST)THE SECOND IT APPROACHES THE BOX.I DON'T WANT TO SPEND A FORTUNE ON A NEW COIL AND 2 WAYS POSTAGE IF I CAN HELP IT.ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM.I'm USING MY 250 NOW AND HAVE BEEN SURPRISED AT TIMES BY ITS DEPTH,A WILLIAM III SIXPENCE TODAY AT ABOUT 8 INCHES,BUT WOULD LIKE MY ELITE BACK WORKING.LOVE THIS FORUM.THIS IS MY FIRST POST BUT I READ POSTS REGULARLY.LOTS OF GREAT ADVICE.

Any suggestions on large coil for musketeer,i want to fix mine up for relic hunting,a15'WOT or 14'EXCELERATOR?.Have heard good things about both.Any input would help.thanks,Chuck.

That depends on where you are hunting. If your in the brush an 8 or 6 inch coil is really good to get in places others have missed. The Wot is going to be heavy if you're going to hunt for long periods.

Tell you what, going to get the musketeer out the closet, dust it off, might get a 5" coil for it,to go along with factory 10" coil, get the hip mount bag out, might chest mount under chin, even better, can just look down at the controls, plus it gives me more room around waist for pouch, with a simple pair of jvc earbud headphones and hunt with it this summer and show what this great detector will do.I don't need or want some hi-tec detector with a tv screen, usb interface that plugs into a computer,or the new one that a voice comes through the head phones letting you know what i have found, don't need touch pad button's,i like a good old fashion knob,i know the young guy's don't know what knobs are(rotary knob turns left and right,i actually think these types of knobs work better and outlast these new digital touch pad buttons)and i think the good old toogle switch is good to.How about that detector that hooks up to your computer, can you down load a movie and music, and video games, heard something about that one, that might not be bad if you are not having any luck!.I mean how far are you new guy's going to take this, you are so demanding,a remote control rover unit.Anyway i will check back at end of summer and let you know how i did with the musketeer.Chucky.

Junkdigger is right on with this answer,i could out hunt alot of these hi-tec boy's with a detector pro pinpointer or bounty hunter, while they are out watching their tv screens i a digging the good stuff! going to wake up the sleeper it's time to go!.Chucky.

:minelab:Baby blue is a good coin getter! Can't wait to really trick out the musky with a 15"WHAT!!!,And who knows what else,i'll think of something to show you hi-tec boys what time it is.When you can down load a video game let me know,no luck? play a video game.Chucky.

Nice bike chuck, and your sponge bob square pants tee shirt.is that your total collection of finds for the day, or what? no info on anything . i thought you said you are strictly tesoro from now on,strange that i see you posting on other forums. still waiting to see the solar mod, since you got the camera going properly.

Hay sam,ya that was the finds for the day, going to keep the musky,it's fun, real sharp signal on coins,i need volume control for my earbud headphones, think i have that covered, jvc earbud headphones are great!,i got this device coming from kellyco,to help adjust volume.Going to trick out the musky, for bad enviroment hunting, got new hip mount bag coming, going to locate light weight rod(3 piece breakdown)might get tesoro s rod,or anderson shaft,a few differant coils. The musky will not work well around power lines,i guess detectors operating in that lower frequency,5kHz range is a bad frequency for power lines, that might be a good thing, alot of these new neighborhoods have underground transformer lines now!,i guess the musky will let me know.Chucky.

Chuck the whites pistol grip rods are the lightest Ive ever found and mate up well with the minelab boxes. all you need is the upper two pieces and the armcup, the stock lower rod fits good.
I had my musky set up this way also.

Thanks for the tip neil!,and all the other guy's on the forum's talk bad about you,you alright with me!.Chuck.

Hay Gunnar, just don't let these Sovereign fools tell you to stop and get a Sovereign,i had one gunnar and the Musketeer is a better detector, just that the all metal is not what we are used to with the tosoros,i never use all metal anyway.Gunnar do not let that musky go word is it is going to be rated best all around well built detector there has ever been for a bunch of reasons. It will become rated better than the Sovereign because of the single 5KHZ frequency that the musky operates at,the professional word is they are finding out that the (BBS and FBS) broad band and full band frequencies are not panning out for what engineers had quite hoped for in the beginning, the more freq drain more power from the circuits,do not penetrate deep down like a single freq will. This is why Minelab is shifting more attention to the X-Terra detectors, this will be the future of detectors, such as changing freq with the change of the coil, built lighter, menu screen etc.. .On the other side of things why do you think the Tesoros are still made the way they are, stop! think about it ,they offer a lifetime warranty right. The good old control knobs and metal toggle switches will out last the new digital style of detectors, with the touch buttons that break in two days etc......Well i am going to stop i could go on and on,but every thing will come about in good time.Happy hunting to all.

I now own a musketeer , and have been testing it . For me its deeper in all metal in disc mode at minimum sesitivity i can peg a nickle or dime whith good strong signal, now at 5" the nickle disapears if i then turn the sensitivity to the 2:00 oclock position i can get the nickle at 5" but the 6" nickle is making a static sound so i turn up the sensitivity to max but whith no chater and i can get the 6" and 7" nickle whith a tone but its weak but when i put it in all metal and adjust the threshold to whear it is just ready to start humming i can get the 6--- 7 -- and 8" nickle no problem thats its real depth for me and my ground is a somwhat minearalized sand whith lots of magnitite in it and the depth is whith the 7 . 3/8" coil the TS 800 i find no diffrence in depth whith the bigger coil just more coverage and i used to own an M-6 which will nail coins to 5.5 " very well but has troble getting past the 6" mark the musketeer is way deeper . from the vidioes i have seen it looks like the Explorer goes ddeper yet and as for bottle capps every detector ive used hit hard on them , Gunnar MN

here in Canada.
Here's a tip you you:
Canadian coins are made of steel and can be picked up with magnets.
Canadian coins = bottlecaps
So you gotta dig bottlecaps to find the coins here.

One reason I like the Musketeer.

A very good detector for just about any hunting situation. Excellent depth, super fast recovery speed and great iron discrimination. Here's mine mounted on a Whites rod.

The Advantage is also and excellent salt water beach detector especially beaches loaded with black sand and hot rocks.
