Most people who never used a Sovereign are not impressed by its Target ID segments.

This makes perfect sense as those that know the Sovereign will tell you, it all part of the learning curve of this great detector. I bet you see you become one with the Sovereign and understand every tone it makes and when certain one sound off it will stop you in the middle of the swing and you have to check it out.
One thing I forgot to mention on the other post about that ring I found is that out of the ground the reading was only about 132 instead of the 141 I was getting, so that tell me that that many of the gold ring will read different out of the ground as they do in the ground that have been lost.

Good Luck and happy hunting.

Rick,
Once again I thank you for sharing your wisdom. Yes, when I place those headphones on (it isn't right away) but after an hour or so, it seems as if I have been "connected to the earth" and tuned into what the detector is telling me. That doesn't mean I don't hear what I am scanning over for the first hour because I do. It just seems as the minutes pass I am sucked out of this world as we know it and tuned into mother earth and the "medium" if you will, is the sovereign. Good luck to you as well - Jim

Ron, that's well said and makes perfect sense. Looks like I'll have to try one of your meters. What criterion and numbers are you using to ID gold? Is it anything like Critter's numbers on the rings he tested? One thing I think I would do with your meter is try to mount it more or less flat to the V-bracket even if I had to tape it to it and maybe a wedge of some kind to raise the display just enough to read it even if I had to bend over enough to do it. That would be my personal preference rather than having it sticking up. Well thanks again to all for your hard earned knowlege and advice. Gives me hope that one day I'll be cherry picking the gold and silver. If that can be done I believe the Sov is the machine to do it with. Good luck to all.
