Most Hated Words for a beach detectorist....

This time of year seems the worst word in the Chesapeake Bay is..Jelly Fish. The bathers are going into the water and coming right back out for they are getting stung. As a hunter you cover every inch of your body from sun and those little guys, I've heard finds of any kind are way down.

Since most beaches I hunt are no longer in use, I guess the bad word for me is "sanded in"..

Yes, wetsuits and gloves work great. It the bathers who are wearing the gold that they are keeping out of the water. Yesterday the jelly fish were not as bad so I took off my wetsuit top and wore my long sleeve nylon shirt, I could feel them thru that but not full strength..more like a tingling sensation.

This is what I normally wear during the summer, no problems

I'm allergic to hornets. My luck I'm allergic to them.
I'd probably need a 10 Mill suit.

So they say, I got my senior park pass to one of the local fresh drop beaches so I hope to add that to the mix with the older beaches I hunt. I really don't expect much since I was told the jelly fish have been a problem.

Interesting since in extremely fine strands it's what flashbulbs were made of. Actually quite dangerous.
Maybe that's the fun of wearing it.

In the mid nineties almost all my rings found were gold with some platinum and some silver. And then the tungsten carbide and titanium rings started showing up. I recently came back from vacation and found 22 rings. Only 11 were gold , 6 of those were only 10 carat. However the other 5 were 14k . 3 of those are quite valuable. 2 diamond engagement rings and a beautiful 14k men’s wedding band I found online ( it has a manufacturing stamp) retails for over $1200.

I would take 11 gold anytime out of 22 rings found, I think that is excellent! You did great!
Even though many think everyone had gold rings back in the day and did not wear junk rings here is one of my better days in the chesapeake bay at a beach that was open in the 50/60/70/80s.. since I consider silver rings junk, pictured there are 11 junk rings, 4 silver junk rings and 7 gold. So 15 junkers to 7 gold, not to bad but just shows they had junk back then also. And this ratio hold fairly true for most of my hunts of yesterday's beaches. Brass and plated were the two culprits back then..

we finally had a great storm that moved 2-3' of sand unbelievable coins everywhere and some rings I got 2 in2 trips they're calling it the storm of the century in RI.
