Mojave Discriminator Dial

hihosilver,

Just tested my Mojave with a large 10k class ring with a blue stone...you know the type...ring cuts out at the PT and ZN line.
Don't have a Indian head to test....but a Zinc penny cuts out at just the top of the Z in zn...

Cheers,
Bob

I did some air tests and my Mojave will disc it a zincoln but still hit and indian cent, so maybe not all large gold rings will vanish. I don't own one so I cannot test it.

That's interesting...wish I had a gold ring and IH to test too, I will definitely keep this in mind. ..I wonder if your disc test result is exclusive to the Mojave.. ill have to wait for an opportunity to test with an indian head and a gold ring..

Thanks for the info! HH

At the zinc setting my wedding band disappears. But I was talking about the large class rings. I am curious as well if they still hit while dissing out the zincoln.

I love digging the zinc penny signals others disc out I've found that is right where large gold class rings register.

You got it 88junior....crank that disc up past nickles & you gonna miss a lot of gold.....small rings etc...I usually run at #2 or #3 just to get rid of the small nails & junk wire.....Just my 2 cents....which I like to dig also.....Tab out.....

I usually like to detect with the disc set to where a nickel is just cleanly accepted. Numbers and labels don't mean much in my opinion as the knobs on different machines aren't always set exact. SO, I throw a nickel on the ground, then turn the disc up to where it drops out, turn it back to where it is cleanly accepted, then go hunt. One can do this and reset the disc knob or mark the setting if desired, but this method actually tests the disc. setting.

Nickels can be funny. They don't all disc out in the same place. Varies by year. I have a 65 that discs high and a modern that discs much lower. Almost an hour less

I rarely use the disc to identify a target anymore.
Seems like proximity of trash can affect where things disc out making it inconsistent.
I quit when I dug a wheatie in my front yard that was under/beside a rusty spark plug.
Sounded like a good coin signal but went away before nickel on the dial.
I try to start low and adjust to the trash targets ( iron/foil) once I identify what's on the site.
Once I tire of digging junk it often finds its way to max for a few last high conductors. Lol
