Modified hand grip on my SE.

Hi fellows,

Been waiting for the snow to melt and my SE upper shaft is having the X-1 probe installed by Ralph at Sun-Ray and decided to put the new grip on my handle. I just didn't like the feel of that foam rubber grip that Minelab uses and to me it just acted like a sponge if you detected in a little rain or your hands got wet and dirty. I don't like to use gloves either as it makes a mess of your handle not to mention putting scratches on your screen. I have a small towel that I carry with me to keep my hands fairly clean or I just wipe them on my pants.:clapping: A couple of years ago I was browsing through the sporting section at WalMart and saw this rubber handle grip tape made by Wilson for use on tennis rackets and thought this would work on my XS handle and I loved the feel and it's a real comfortable grip and decided that my SE needed one also. The nice thing about this grip is that it doesn't soak up any water and it's very easy to keep clean. They only run about $3 and if you want a better feel and grip then give it a try. Thanks for looking and HH to all of you who can still get out and do some digging.

Nice clean detail to it. If my foam handle starts to go Ill probably do the same thing.
Just one question...Does it make the silver coins sound clearer? hehe

Sorry Dave. Yes, I did remove the old grip first and should have included that in my post. Thanks for the reply and if you try that grip I think you will really like it. HH.

Eddie

I think you will like it. I didn't give my new SE a chance for the stock grip to wear out because I really like the Wilson grip. I won't guarentee that it will make silver coins sing out clearer, but you never know. I'm selling these grips for $19.95:rofl: or you can pick one up at WalMart or any sporting goods place for about $3. HH.

That is a nice looking grip. The used SE I bought... after I sold mine to Dave:bouncy:...has a very similar grip job. VERY nice my friend.

Good idea. I am a little more crude, using a couple layers of saran wrap and tape, but hey, it works.

Happy hunting :detecting:

Those grips work well, ive had one on for a couple of years now. I didnt like the constant cleaning of the ML grip either. I put mine right over theirs and have had NO problems no matter what the weather. Works great because they are designed for wet and salty. Got mine at wally world.... they of course didnt have black, i was stuck with some kind of tennis green. Should last ya... havent had to replace mine yet and it gets a work out.

Glad somone else has tried these grips Dew. I've had mine on my XS for over two years and liked the feel so well that I put one on my SE. I took the ML grip off first as I didn't want the new grip to be too bulky and still have a firm comfortable grip. HH.

Hey, what ever toots your horn.:clapping: Yours sounds like an easy disposable type, but if you try the one I mentioned I'm sure you will like it and like I said, they don't soak up water and clean up very easy. HH.

Eddie

Thanks Bryce. If yours has a similar grip then I'm sure you like it as well. Nothing like a good comfortable grip especially if you hunt all day long. HH.

Hi guys---You won't shoot an ole Etrac guy for being here, will ya?? :)-----Does anybody know if you can take that tape back off the original cover without damageing the Minelab handle cover? (when it's applied over it-in case you ever want to take it back off)-----I think it's a great idea--I'm going to try some of it on my wifes & my Etracs.-----I liked the first (original) covers on the other Explorers we had, it was durable--but this one they're useing now on both the Explorers & Etracs feels so flimsy (squishy).----I keep thinking it's going to tear & I'm sure it will eventually.---Like was already stated, it's hard to keep clean also.-----I'd buy 'em from you for $19.95 Eddy but I'm REAL POOR----so guess I'll have to get 'em at Wally world!-------Keep findin those treasures guys, there's "history" under our feet!-----------God Bless, Del

Hi Del,

That Wilson grip has a doubleback tape on it and if you put it over the original ML grip then it might damage it if you try to take it off. Heck, just take the ML grip off completely and don't worry about it. It's certainly not going to devalue your detector by taking off the original foam grip.

Eddie

Good idea.

At least the snow will melt over on the west side. I think we are going to have snow here on the east side for the duration. I had near a foot and a half in the front yard. It has compacted to about 8 to 10 inches with the high of 32 the last couple days.

Jeff

And I thought we had it bad with the five inches we got. Hope you get dug out Jeff and weather permitting maybe you can get out and do some swinging. HH.

i cut a sandwich bag and put that over the foam grip to protect it , then wrapped the tennis racket grip over that .
