MINELAB WE HAVE A PROBLEM....!!!

Is that true ? I thought a earphone lasted much longer then the detector !!! See how little I know... (snif).

Thank you for helping me, I am a bit "depri" since the X-Terra is a GREAT MACHINE and all I want to do is being "out there, detecting" !!!!

BOB VALDEZ, (still in ) BELGIUM

Hahaha, you made me smile, again !

You might also look at some of the models that offer "replaceable cables" that detach from the headphone unit itself. Much cheaper than replacing the entire headphone unit.

Ralph

What a coincidence! I just happened to jump over from the Quattro forum to see how folks were doing with the new X-50 and seen your posts on the headphone issue.
I just did the same thing today with my Quattro! Don't know how I did it but these Bounty Hunter phones have a very short cord. You can see the white wire is separated in the photo. Easy fix. Good luck!

The outer covering of your cord (black) should be inside the strain relief clamp. Your's looks as if it was never clamped to prevent the internal wires from pulling lose. I would guess those are "Calrad" production headphones.

Ralph

They say "Made for Bounty Hunter" "Taiwan" on the side. They are very comfortable with good padding. I already have the wire soldered and they are workin' good again.

Bob: I think that the mention of the cable accross the belly earlier may be the problem. I also had a similar problem, as I tend to have a moderate to large belly, hold the detector fairly close when swinging the coil, causing the headphone cable to be bent back and forth. I usually had the problem with detectors that plug in at the rear of the arm rest (Garrett for example), I was using Calrad phones at the time, started using Sun Ray pros, have not had the problem since. From my experience Mike is probally right about headphones made for Metal Detecting, my 2 cents worth HH Steve.

I thought so much of the pair I tried I became a dealer for them. I hated the phones that came with my Explorer 2. The cord was to short, my ears hurt after a while detecting, and they slid or pulled off my head. If anyone here wants a pair I will ship for free. Just IM me.

TRUE !

I can hardly believe it but it turned out I (!!!!) broke my cables, 3 times on a row in 3 months !!!!

So : Minelab it is NOT your mistake, just mine. A relief for you but also for me because I am IN LOVE with my X-Terra 50.

Just need (a few) headphones or cables, at least, with a "90

Bob,

As a gesture of your goodwill for the positive support you have shown for both your X-Terra and Minelab in general, I'm going to get you a decent detecting headphone with right angled jackplug for free with my compliments!
Being a detectorist of long standing I'm well familiar with breaking cables etc.
By the way, while "Sennheiser" is a fabulous phone in the recording studio and/or in your living room, their cables are really thin and delicate for use outdoors. Plus, they are VERY expensive so I wouldn't recommend that you throw away money on fragile phones.
Please e-mail me your address details and I'll send them to you soon as I get them.

Kind regards

Des Dunne

Treat yourself and get a NiMH recharger and a couple sets of batteries. They actually put out more mah (milliamp hours) than alkaline and last for years. You can get the best charger for $40 and sets of four batteries are $8 +/- and can be cycled 700 or more times.

Well Bob ,

What a nice ending to all you problems.

Minelab are very generous to all their customers.

You should see what they do for us when we have the annual Corfe Castle Rally.

Its the highlight of the year for Minelab users from all over the world.

Keep swinging that X-Terra and somtimes in the left hand.

Regards,Jerry.

Can someone tell me more about this rally? I have to agree, Minelab has always been great in my dealings with them. Look at the other brands web pages, do they find anywhere near the things we Minelab owners find?

if you go to minelabowners.com site and make contact with Tony Hunt i am sure he will help you out with the details,if you have a problem let me know and i will see what i can find out for you

Well that seals it... I've been using some cheap $8 foamies since I started in late summer and have been watching the forum for the reason why these cheapies were inadequate. I think your stereo vs. MDing headphone explanation has finally convinced me to spend the money.

Of course bears are a big concern here, so will keep the light foamies nearby for those "uncomfortable" locations. I beat the heck out of those little things and they still work great.

Thanks Mike.

Todd

What a gesture ! Gave them my co-ordinates, meanwhile, and THANKED Des, of course.

Make no mistakes, the X-Terra 50 IS a super detector. I am out almost every day and when & if I am NOT out, I am thinking about...getting out !

LOL !
