Minelab vs Garrett, What is the deal???

Oh...You can find some things... I have found lots of rounds big and small, Gas mask etc...etc...Some places it is hard to look for the old stuff when there is a lot of rounds and brass metal in the ground.I have a Japanese coin from WWII that I found in a battle area with a bullet hole through it. I will post it in the future! The caves can have almost anything in them.

hi all im from wales uk and i just started out with a gta 500 and the wife has a treasure ace 100 even though im new i thought i could contribute to this thread a little. first off i joined a club i noticed nearly everyone has a minelab explorerII and they all rave about it ive been on 3 rallys with them so far and they get some roman coins or old pennys etc with their machines. with my gta i didnt find much though my wife found a bell with hers on our last trip i started thinking have i got the right machine cos there were a few roman coins found and we found nothing except junk and bits an bobs anyway back at the car i showed the others wat i thought was a bit of junk it was only a roman brooch wernt it lol.now all i can say is i found that after the minelabs had been in that area and left so why wasnt it picked up by them ok it could have been missed but i bet someone went over it at one point i just think u must have confidence in your machine when hunting more just get the most expensive but i must get my wife a better model than the one she got now maybe a garrett 250 anyway the minelab is prob better but my garrett done em a kipper last week lol cheers for now
paul an lisa

Paul and Lisa, My first machine was a GTA 500, and I can honestly say it paid for itself the first summer I had it. It's a great machine for coins and rings. If I had a choice between having the 500 or a minelab I would choose the 500. Not that the Minelabs are not good machines, They get great depth. But the 500 is just so simple and easy to use. You will love your 500 BUT.......watch out when you get Lisa the 250....she may just kick yer butt with it  Take care and have fun

Your right about that John. But I do have to admit....my 2500 has me pretty spoiled!! I generally look for coins when I go out. Thats kind of what I miss bout my 500 (letting a good friend use it) The interesting things You find when using it that you would usually walk over with the 1500 or the 2500....I've found some pretty cool relics digging for what I thought was a coin :)

thx steve i love it my only concern was when i had to notch down on sensitivity im always thinking is it going deep enough but im overcoming that now i guess u just got to have confidence in your machine

Sometimes the high price machines give too much info and people think they have junk when they have a good find! With bronze items and coins like here in japan, they fall into all kinds of categories on the meter. (Foil, pull tab, nickle etc..etc Depends on the copper content when they were made!
I use depth more as to what I might have. Good Luck!
I found these coins with my 3D,but I'm sure any garrett would of picked them up too!
GOOD LUCK!

THose were found on the Yuba River in Northern California by a lady attorney from San Bernardino who got into nuggetshooting and has been blowing everyone away ever since.

i see where u coming from china about too much info my roman brooch was bordering on trash but i dug it if i had a minelab im wondering whether i would have. really torn now about getting a newer an better garret with a spare coil so i can work beaches or the 12"pro coil or the minelab decisions decisions lol

Yeah somewhere I've got some Japanese paper money from WWII with blood on it that my dad gave me many years ago.

Bill

Yes, All that extra information may make us lazy and not dig many things like we would on someting with less info! MMM Waka do Waka Do!

I'm new to using a Minelab. At the time I was considering purchasing an Ace 250. The Ace 250 is a great performing detector with a lot to offer, in it's own way, and I don't discount it in any way. But I took a chance and went the other way.

Been using an X-Terra 50 for a month now and I can tell you that I have NOT passed up any Canadian coins in my area. To be able to pick up a Canadian dime at 9 inches easily says a lot at how well it will pick up a looney or twoony higher in the VDI scale. Have even found a twoony and recently a quarter on edge with a good ID worth digging at 4 inches. I can usually tell a Canadian coin before I dig with it's unique tone it produces. My finds have increased tremendously in the Canadian clad department since purchasing a Minelab.

Good luck trying to follow behind me and see what I leave behind. The more I use my Minelab the more I'm impressed with it's performance.

All detectors will pick up Canadian coins. It's just how much you're willing to dig to find them. Minelab has done very well with the X-Terras on how it will signal and ID Canadian coins.

That's why back in the old days we found more because we had to dig everything. The new machines tend to make one lazy and depend entirely to much on the machine to make our decisions.

Bill

Yes, The old days! I still dig allot, but find myself skipping sometimes. Getting old I guess and don't want to get down so much!
I think I found my most with my old master hunter that had only Depth on it!:garrett:
Those were the good days! That thing lasted forever. I think it was a ADS 5 and then I got a ADS 7... That was good too!
Now I have the Plastic Master hunter CX II from back around 93! Its ok but the plastic broke right under the stem. I got it rigged and ready to go!

Yeah there was a lot more money laying around back then. Be nice to go back in time and do it all over again. And yeah I ain't getting any younger either. Father Time is nipping at my rear. :)

Bill

From the land of the Bluenose...especially our newer canuck dimes...ring up like apulltab on me old Garrett...thank goodness for pinpointing and no discrimination...not too mention a smaller plug withthe Garretts great pinpointing!
