Minelab stock headphones inop.

ML, the CTX is wireless when using the WM10. Plug the Koss into it. Much better than plugged into the detector and a lot less stress on the headphone cable. It's strange to me that a lot of people don't use the wireless module.

I'm an old timer, but I don't consider plugging headphones w/cord into a module (that you have to place somewhere on your body) as true wireless. I guess I'm thinking White's V3 as true wireless. A system like that I'd use. As far as the stock Koss (which I do like the sound), I've only had two other sets of headphone fail in over 40 years of detecting. One set was homemade for the Gt, and the other a set of Koss (GT again) that lasted over 5 years until salt air killed them. I've been through 2 sets of the Koss 30's with the CTX in about 8 months time. And I'm not the only one in my group of hunters that has had this issue and called for replacements. To date, Minelab has had no problem sending new ones, which kinda tells me that they know the design is flawed. I'll contact them tomorrow and see what they say.

ML, I guess your right in that they're not truely wireless. The issue with the Koss it seems is always with the cord at the jack area. Being plugged into the module would eleviate that. I always liked the sound of my Koss headphones but don't like how loose they are. Plus they let in a lot of outside noise. I'm keeping the set that came with mine as a back up just in case I need them. I put my module in a military magazine pouch that also holds my small video camera. The pouch is already on my gear belt so I'm not really carrying anything extra. Not being attached to the detector to me is just the greatest thing. Good luck with your next pair, I hope they hold up good.

I finally got around to calling Minelab about my 2nd pair that starting failing (cutting out) after a few months and they are sending me another new set. Can't really argue with that but I told the girl I spoke to that my older Koss's (with GT) lasted many years and that the new ones are made like crap. Hey, if they wanna keep sending me new ones that'll work for me.

I have tried the headphones hooked direct, too much pulling/tangling issues for me. Then I tried plugging them into the wireless, worked better but I find the headsets way to hot in the Houston area. Also, in some of the ghetto areas i go into, I need all the outside sound I can stand. Then I just went and got a $90 set of earbuds with a wide range of tones and that is what I use all the time. I also bought some Gray Ghosts, but rarely use them. Mostly they are spares if the wireless battery goes down.

I called Minelab last week as my 3rd pair of the Koss pooped out! There are sending me a new pair without having to send the old ones back. I asked the guy why Minelab has not fixed this seemingly ongoing problem. He was very nice but didn't have an answer and strongly suggested I go with the wireless. My dear buddy Gene is going to help me with that thank goodness! It was interesting that the gentleman from Minelab simply said the wireless will extend your time with the Koss. I know nothing lasts forever but my White's MXT crappy headphones have been filling in and they have never given me a problem. Peggy

Received my third pair of the stock Koss's from Minelab last week. Just noticed "made in China" on the wrapper. I guess it should say "not made very well in China". Oh well, they were free....

Minelab gave me a new pair no questions asked call them and tell them your problem, they were the most helpful people I have ever called about a problem.

Same with the pair I just ordered, no questions asked. Point being, they are very aware that they aren't made well and fail pretty quickly. I think they're very comfortable and sound great, however. Just wish they'd last few years.
