Minelab hat sweat damage

no way deus might sue them for the duel color technology patent violation. on a serious note seems like almost everything the quality just stinks these days.

Or you could cash in some clad and just get a new one off the fleabay for others to admire. I mean, what do you care what color it is while its sitting on your head? You cant see it then.

The wife was close to throwing them out: "i'm not having you wear something that ugly..."
Does Gary Drayton wear a cruddy hat?
You have to maintain an image, man.

So... back to this cruddy looking hat thread.
After washing the hat with water from the hose you get the white sweat stains off and the hat looks like new until it dries - then the orange comes back in and it looks bad.
So I thought to myself "what would make it keep that wet look?"
Then I remembered Turtlewax trim restorer - that I used on my Suburban's plastic trim. It did a good job of making the gray trim look black again and it lasted pretty long.
So I tried it on the hats and it works pretty well. You use a treated hat all day in the sun and some orange comes back a bit but just apply a bit more of the product and looks good again.
Here are a before/after photo and a shot of a treated vs untreated hat. They both look almost new after treatment. I haven't yet tried using the restorer on the CTX...

Wouldn't that leave the hat oily? If so then you would end up having a hat coated in oily mud as dust continually blows across it and dirty hands touch it.

I hear ya. I guess us trailer trash types are just happy when our hat is cleaner than whats left of our hair. :bouncy:

(and I must admit that I one time spray painted a favorite hat)

The restorer seems high in silicone. I hunted for an afternoon and it showed a little orange tinge but a couple dabs of the stuff and back to good. I suspect a washover with water would not hurt things and wash any dust/mud off of it.

I tried the restorer on the CTX. Takes the paint off the control box case :nono: Otherwise spruces up the shafts and plastic.
