Minelab GT meter - no longer made?

What I can't understand is why the SEF works with all other meters but not that internal one. Since the ID pins (a positive and a negative) come from the electronics in the control box and travel to the meter, there shouldn't be anything in the coil preventing it from working as it doesn't even travel into the coil. The only thing I can think of is from memory there were two grounds in the coil connector that the coils use and they are redundant, so maybe the SEF only uses one while all other coils use two. If the internal meter is using the ground pin that the SEF isn't using as the ground for the ID input then it might be not working because there is no ground present. That's if the meter is relying on that ground to be grounded by the internals of the coil.

I get phenomenal depth with just the S12 and Stock coils ....Do the SEF's add that much more depth

They are all pretty close in the same size range. If I had an S12 and it worked well I wouldnt bother with an SEF of the same size and vice versa, now that Ive got the SEF I wont swap it out for an S12.

I have read a lot of material on Patricks meter and have been trying to find his website or some information on how to order a meter. I am pretty savvy with a computer but this one has me stumped. All of his material on the web appears to be more than five years old. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you are looking at some older post as Joe Patrick used to make a Patriot meter which some really liked but were not a real hot selling item, so he now come out with a newer meter that goes into where the speaker used to be and it looks like it is going to be a hot seller for him as it is very nice.
I am sure Joe or someone will E Mail you if interested.

Ron, I rarely use a meter, that is why I liked the idea of the In-Sight meter. If, I ever want to use it, it is always there. i usually use an S-8 coil so I don't have the problem SEF users have and if I ever use my 10x12 SEF, it is just to cover alot of beach faster and I dig everything that sounds reasonable. I dig a lot of trash signals and sometimes it is jewelry so, unless I am sure it is a bottle cap, and I am in a hurry, i will dig everything. I always haul the trash out, I hope everyone else reading these forums will too. On my belt, I have a pouch for coins, one for trash and inside the hip mount pouch I have a tube for holding jewelry. Plugger,I haul the thrash out, never know when you will search there again less work and its the right thing to do.I liked using a nail apron, but this season switched to a fly fishing vest and think its an improvement. The in box meter for searching on the beach or shallow water does have advantages one less cord and attachment to worry about. Thanks Ron

I would like to thank everyone for chiming in with their thoughts. It has been very informative. Right now I am trying to seal a deal on a GT... just waiting to hear back from the individual. If this individual can not locate a meter for me, once I do seal-a-deal on a GT, I will scour through the "for sale" posts here on findmall.

Ron and Critter ....

I was thinking the same thing on the meter connection in the box using #5 and #6 wires .....What would be so different about a SEF coil ? ....It's still sending data back to the box ....The box then sends this data out to wires 5&6 for display purposes ..... Using these wires (5&6) , if you have them wired correctly, you will get a possitive reading on a Voltage meter setup ....However , if you CROSS the wires , you will get a minus reading .....For example you will read a -180 when you hit a quarter where as you will read a 180 on the meter when wired correctly .....Reverse polarity .... I've never seen Patricks meter so I wonder if there is room for enough digits to read the minus sign on his meter ......If not , perhaps the display that he uses just cancels out the numbers completely if the wires are crossed .....Just a thought ..... Plugger, are you finding your 12x10 to be deeper than the stock 10" Tornado? It is for me so far but I need to run more tests.

I did a rough one using a meter from harbor Freight for $3.95 and mounted it on a bracket that has a slight angle like the Sun Rays. I bought a cable that runs from my S-1 probe to the control box, but on pins 5 and 6 I connected 2 wires which I connected my plus and minus leads from the meter to, so I didn't have to do any changing on the control box. I haven't glued the meter switch in place and not sure if i will at this time, but the screws are out of the meter cover so it can be popped off easy to switch the battery when needed. I am thinking on getting more meters too as they can be switched easy enough so if I switch coils I can switch meters too for one I calibrate for the coil i am going to use as it would take around 10 seconds to do it.
I do like the way yours looks and hope to come up with something similar or maybe find a DTI 3 Sun Ray meter. I also like the looks of the In Site meter of Joe Patricks but will have to wait until my warranty runs out.

I should of taken that electronics class back in high school

Rick,I have ran the Cen-Tech with the Winburn and Minelab meters and at this point performance they are very close. With the female plug mounted in the Sovereign box its much more convenient(easy to install a pain to put the box back together with the cord in the way) no more wrapping cords and a easy plug in and disconnect.I have noticed a lack of weight compared with the other meters. For someone who needs a 180 meter these are the real deal and the price blows these other meters away. This meter has the bottom circuit board cut away,a two way on off switch installed, battery is secured outside on the support,a access to adjust the internal pot from the outside.By the way the pot port can be covered by a plug purchased from an Ace hardware store for 60 cents but the plugs form the Cen Tech leads work much better for a cover and don't lock in if an adjustment is need at a location. Thanks Ron
