Midwest gold refineries?????

Old Katz

New member
Has anyone sold gold to this company and are they reputable?

Are there any other refineries to sell gold to?
Katz

I talked to them just the other day. They are well organized and take only a small, fair portion of the spot price for fees, 6% I think on gold.

Dont hesitate to deal with them.

They're great. I brokered a large scrap gold shipment between them and a local guy about a month ago and after all was said and done my client was so satisfied he gave me an extra gratuity on top of the fee he agreed to pay me for my small service. They pay 95 percent. Call them for complete details. It is best to send over an ounce, I think. It took longer than usual this time because of gold prices but it was still only 10 days from the day I shipped to the day I got the check. I think it was my 6th or 7th transaction with them. I have been 100% satisfied and highly recommend them.

Several guys here have used them with satisfaction. I sent some of to an outfit that buys gold from all the dentists. I'll have tolook up the name and info.

First time I used them they ripped me off $60.00. Called them and confronted them about it and they sent me another check...that was on Gold jewelry. I knew within $30 of how much the melted jewelry would be as I weigh my gold.

Same thing happened again on jewelry second time. Sent me another check...admitted mistake was made...again.

Sent them some placer gold from my dredge. I only got 68% of spot. They did not send me another check this time. Could have sold it to a local mining shop for 75%. They didnt even melt it. They said" I need to send them 3 oz or more to melt and get exact ratio, other than that we pay estimate for placer gold minus our fee". (6% then)

Happy now Dahut? Couldn't have just taken my word for it., eh?

Like I said...ok for jewelry, dont send them placer gold.

No. You may very well be costing them business with such comments, so they demand further elaboration. Sorry, but there it is.

What you are accusing them of is dishonesty. This is a company that has a good reputation with many, many people. I myself spoke to Gary there, just the other day. He was very helpful, offering some keen suggestions on how to ship my items to them - things I would not have thought of. In and of itself this does not prove a lot, but the sheer number of satisfied customers makes such comments as yours all the more curious. I'd like to hear from Mid West, too.

Were it you and your business, would you expect less?

Sent my placer gold to a place in FT. Collins CO. and they made it in to native gold coins for me for a small fee. It is Called Envio Mint. They are metal detectorist as well cool place. I bought some of their coins also.

Bearkat in a short and simple sentence voiced his opinion without detail and you bashed him for that..Then he went into detail at you're request to elaborate,so he did and then you Bash him again. What kinda crap is that?.Not everyone has a great experience such as you're self but I'm sure most people do .. I'm sure they are a good company and I'll use them when I've found enough to send in but to Dog someone out because they had a bad experience is just plain ole wrong

They used to do a melt assay on orders of an ounce or more. That's what I recall. Now as Alan said it's 3 ounces. My last shipment of jewelry was an ounce and a half of 14K jewelry. I thought I'd get $550 (after their cut) at the price of gold at the time. My check was $515 as I recall. I was still satisfied but as it worked out I received around 90% of the value of the gold at my weight. There were a few really tiny earring pieces and one piece had some non gold material in it that might have caused some error in my weight. 90% is loads better than I could do anywhere else that I've found.

As I wrote last night, I recently did a gold deal for a friend. 12.5 ounces of dental gold. There was a lot of enamel attached. I did the best job I could of estimating the value of the shipment. The settlement amount was quite a bit higher than I calculated. I spot checked about 10 percent of the pieces and found it was about 60 percent 14-18k and 40 percent 18k or higher. They determined it was 68% gold after melt. I was very satisfied and so was my pal.

I will continue to use them but will only send in an order when it will get a true melt assay. At the rate I'm finding gold this year it will take me 10 years to get 3 ounces. I've already discussed combining an order with a friend.

Chris

PS Sorry to hear about your troublesome shipment, Alan.

yeh I gave them the benefit of the doubt for the first mistake..they were very nice as they always are and sent me another check. There being nice to me is what made me keep using them. But after 3 times and I feel I got ripped I'll go elsewhere. i dont like what happened because I heard so much good stuff about them.

But I dredge for gold for living in the summer and I work too hard to get 68% for my gold. Another dredger sent his gold that was dredging upriver from me and sent midwest a solid oz of gold and got shorted quite a bit from spot. That was last summer and he sent in his gold when gold was around $1050 an oz. he got around $750 ish...I saw the check.....Could have walked in the New 49er's mining store and got a little more thn that, instead of waisting shipping money also.

But if I get alot of gold jewelry detecting I'd still probally send it too them. maybe....but AGAIN I say, dont send them placer gold unless you have 3 oz's plus, as per what midwest told me. I get spot + on ebay for placer. Sorry to hurt your feelings dahut about your beloved midwest refineries ,but if you dont understand about gold mining and our placer gold we dig up then dont know what eles to say.

By the way...costing them business? I dont loose sleep about that. Not my problem. Nice people though, I just had bad experience with them. Enough said.

I'd agree to that.

Gold go's up and down every 15 to 30 mins. What you weight your gold at home might not be what Gold is when they buy it. Midwest buy your gold at around 10:00 a.m.every day. The best way to judge your gold is weigh it all up ,mixed and made all 14 kt.
I just sent in 170 grams sum 10kt sum 14kt sum 22kt and sum 18 kt and make it all 14kt and when I sent it in it was about $3062 ,today it's $3200. Thank of it this way, you didn't buy it ,you pay $5 for batteries. And now your Bitchen over FREE money.

This is how thy calculate the outcome
1.take troy oz and make into grams=31.1 =1 troy oz
2.for 10k gold use x39 verses .41.67 true
3. 14k gold use x55 verses .58.55 true
4. 18k gold use x71 verses 75% true
5. x.96 for your total
this is what Midwest uses for anything under 3 troy Oz's
so as you see you do lose out some on anything under the 3 troy Oz's if its more then 3 troy Oz's
you get an assay of the melt and get payed 95% of that hope this helps

This has been bashing? Man, you live a sheltered life. This is what is called a "dialogue," where people carry on a conversation. As often happens, the conversation isn't always milk and cookies. It's like that sometimes.

In that conversation, I saw one guy blowing what seems like a tin whistle. As junklord said:

"Gold goes up and down every 15 to 30 mins. What your gold weighs at home might not be what Gold is when they buy it. Midwest buys your gold at around 10:00 a.m.every day. In junklords case, the timing was good, and the fluctuation was to the positive. No one complains about that, for sure.
In bearkats situation, it may not have gone his way.
It's just that when so many others get it done well with this outfit, you have to wonder about the one complainant and be willing to speak up. That aint' dogging someone out where I come from.

TO his credit, bearkat handled it well. I have no problem with him, now, or any of his comments and he gave credit where due... so good on you, bearkat.

Don't be too quick to play the "bashing" ticket, just because a few feathers get ruffled. You cant have Traction... without a little Friction.
