Hey guys I'm hunting down in the RGV (Rio Grande Valley) and not finding much. I never do when I'm down here. Anyway, does anyone have VDI for Mexican coins? Packing and keeping my head low.
Here are some numbers that i got with the few Mexican coins that i have. I know somewhere between little and nothing about Mexican coins so i will list tham as shown on the coin.
Taken in stock coin with a 4x6 coil.
All plus numbers except the last one which really throws be for a loop.Maybe someone can clear it up.
CT=centavos
1928 2-ct = 68
1934 5-ct = 54
1946 10-ct = 25
1950 5-ct = 17
1950 25-ct = 39
1951 50-ct = 51
1964 Veinticinco-ct = 22
Now for this one.
1914 5-CT
Here are five numbers that i recorded. it give others between these but i only recorder these 5.
-12 , -6 , +25 , +50 , +76
On the polar plot it made oblong circles.
I decide to see what my CTX would read it at and in fe/co it gave 11-30 to 33 and a bounce to 12 every now and then.
Dug a large amount of modern Mexican pesos in Cancun last year with a Coinmaster Pro. Had to clear the discriminator as they ring up as iron. The 10 peso rings positive but at the moment I can't recall the VDI except to say its a "dig" signal. Not many centavos to be found and I don't recall offhand where they hit. Good thing you are looking for older Mexican coins. The composition of any of the coins is easy to look up in one of the Krause publications or similar for world coins. Though the Internet is prob as good.

If it won't register on your coil your discrimination is set too high. Set your MXT to just reject a surface nail. It's a clad coin, I don't know its makeup.
If you are talking about modern, post devaluation currency ie 1993 and later I have just collected about 4000 pesos in the last 2 months during my stay here in Mexico all with an F75 but it's all relative .Next year I will bring my V3i .Peso coins 1,2,5 are all mostly composed of steel and come in around 5-12 with an audible click ,not much more than that .10 pesos give a good signal at 61.
Centavo coins ,value below 1 peso ,are all totally steel, and hardly register at all audibly ,but around 5 visually.
Thanks guys I amhome now. I picked up a $1 worth of change when I visited Mexico for the day. They all read ferrous. Man I home we don't see that here.
