Meeting with Cook County Forest preserve to address detecting ban.. Tuesday July 30th in Chicago.

That's what I would like to know.... I bet it was a "thank you for your time, we will take this into consideration " type of thing.

What is in these forest preserves that is worth going for? Are they hiking, picnicking, swimming types of place?[/quote]

Follow the money.
My guess is the OP already has an arrangement with the producers from the Travel Channel to make a series on detecting in the preserve and recovering artifacts . The size of the bribe to to the bureaucrats is the only question to be answered and how many recovered items will never be counted.
Of course the joe six pack type detectorist will never be allowed to swing a coil over the "hallowed ground" even though they naively added their support.

Little harsh there doncha think, sprchng?

That would be something else if he detected there for the show! I highly doubt that is the case though since not only would that be plain wrong but it isn't the same caliber of historical significance like the other places they have detected.

I don't think so , this is Chicago after all.
Look at the history.
Consider the names and the figures that factor so prominently there.
Go to the Cook County Forest Preserve website and look at the hoops you have to jump through just to get "permission" to speak to them for 3 minutes.
Ariel Castro could open a day care center there with enough money.
Anthony Wiener could franchise charm schools without a permit.
Great place to be from but I'd hate to live there.

Cant argue with any of that. Theres places I wouldn't live for all the money in the Fed and Chicago is near the top of that list.
