MDing not thought of as a hobby??

Dobbie, I *LOVED* the original Daggerfall for PC! Subsequent Elder Scrolls games were cool too, but my xbox took a $&!# and I haven't bothered trying to fix it. Probably had something to do with all the modifications I've made to it ;) WoW is still one of my favorite games to play, nothing beats playing online with tens of thousands of other people.

I hear the new Conan online RPG is damn good too...so good in fact that alot of EQ/WoW players are jumping ship for it! It may be awesome, I haven't seen it yet - but there's no way I would leave WoW after all the time I have invested in it ;)

It has been like a week since I've logged into WoW, been taking advantage of the nice weather here to get out and find stuff with the MD.

PAshooter, my step son plays that game alot. I got hooked onto the xbox 360 version of Oblivion. I like the Elder Scrolls series best although wasnt too impressed by the Elder Scrolls 3 that came out for the OG X-Box..Do you play any of these games? I havent for awhile now but have been thinking of picking up the controller again. MDing got me hooked to...:bouncy:

my comp is WAAAAAAAAAYYYY too slow for playing online games....im bummed....my OG xbox took a dive to,,,,i have a Wii I have been playing alot of. totally different gameplay as far as the games. a bit immature but still fun. My kids and I are now playing Mario Kart for the Wii...and I have dappled a bit into Wii Fit. My husband has been hoggin the 360 with his games so im stuck with the Wii. no complaints though..ya i hear ya on the weather...its been great here to but i havent had a chance to go out in about a week to MD. hopefully tomarrow I will have that chance....

Well is MD'n a hobby? To me it is much more than that. The thrill of unearthing something that has been under the soil for years? Man I love it. It is also about getting out and enjoyong the outside. Some people ask why I do it, and I just say I enjoy it? I mean how about people that collect stamps, or art? I dunno it is an addiction in a way for me. I love finding clad, but old silver is just so sweet, Beale.

Dr Steve it is no/ text in the message. They have that on so you don't have to read anything but the header in the message. You don't have to open the message.... Jer

I noticed a few posts saying something about addiction. Here I am out here on the beach in between the rain storms with the seagulls. Me and the seagulls. Am I the only normal person in WI? Heavy low back clouds with the waves crashing into the beach. Whitecaps everywhere. The roar of the waves hitting the beach. Me and the seagulls just enjoying. Am I the only normal person here? Not only that I have a 4" coil on my detector and I am detecting a beach with it. I found a few pennies and a pouch full of pull tabs. Yes I am the only normal person here. It is not an addiction I can quit any time I want. Just as soon as I can hardly walk anymore and totally exhausted. Than maybe I will quit for the day and come out again tomorrow even if it rains. Yes I am normal and it is not an addiction, I can quit anytime I want.... Jer

I work on computers all day and I want to go home and relax. I hate tv and love the outdoors. I can get away from the world laying on the bottom of a lake listening to beeps. Not caring or worying about anything. Total relaxation and total concentration on finding things.

I guess not much different than getting high or getting drunk. (I think, No experience on either) Just having fun and watching God's underwater creations.

I consider it a hobby, I find it relaxing to be out there walking slow, listening to the beeps of my detector, the chirping of the birds, my girls yelling at me to drop every thing and help them down from the jungle gym LOL.

md ing is much cheaper although i dont play online only because my internet is too sloow. but i do love the outdoors to. i would rather sit by the river then by the tv anyday......i use to hike alotbut then i had knee surgery. that kinda put a damper on that one.

Thanks for all the replies.
As I read through the posts I sense an almost magical effect metal detecting has on us. After the newness has worn off it is an experience that is some times beyond words, yet experienced by many of us. Strange....
The other thing I noticed is many of us have health problems. I always feel better after getting out and doing some metal detecting. Tired but I feel better. Thanks for reading and the replies.... Jer
