I guess I should address this myself, as it has gotten out of control.
First of all, I never "harvested" names. Secondly I did not spam anyone. I thought it was a great contest, where anyone has a chance to win. After receiving two emails from people who thought I was spamming, I decided to voluntarily drop out of the contest. No one asked me to.
Here is a copy of the message I sent to the users of the forum in question
As far as Findmall goes, I sent a PM to one member; someone who's opinion I value, and who I thought would bring a lot to the table. This was sent a personal contact of mine, not an unsolicited PM. IF anyone has issue with me or the issue, please feel free to contact me directly at my email address, neilhschwartz@yahoo.com.

Dear XXXXXXX Forum Members and Staff:
There have been some questions regarding my ranking in the August new membership contest. Questions have arisen whether or not I have harvested other metal detecting forums in order to win the contest. Many of you know me as a frequent contributor of other forums. Over the years I have built quite a network of fellow metal detecting enthusiasts. This has translated into a rather large "buddy list" of more than 500 names and email addresses, many of which I no longer remember, and who no longer remember me. While the winning one of these great prizes would be nice, it is not as important as my long standing reputation as an ambassador the the hobby. It is with this in mind that I have asked Larry to remove me from the running for the contest. I hope to continue my contributions as both a member and an administrator of the forum. I wish you all good luck in the contest.
Happy Hunting,
Neil
