Makro Gold Racer Question

Approximately a couple weeks ago I noticed that every time I turn on my machine, small 4x7 coil & default settings, I get a pulsating overload type sound. As soon as I back the sensitivity off of 90 the sound goes away and the unit seems to be performing normally. With the stock 5.5x10 coil it does not make that sound when turning it on and I can crank it up to max sensitivity.
This is the case whether indoors or in the middle of nowhere and regardless of All Metal, Sens 1 or 2.
Is this an indication of a failing coil?
Any other checks I can do before calling Kellyco?

Take the coil cover off and try it. Mine did it aswell. After I put the cover back on it was good. Mine still does it once in awhile.

My coil and cover are clean with no debris between.
I guess I need to call the folks in MA about a new coil.

Did you try running it with the cover off? I did and it ran fine. I put the cover back on while it was still running and started detecting. Mine still does it once in awhile, but thats how I fix mine. If that dont fix it then you should get it replaced.

Doesn't matter, cover on or off. It appears to be working fine as long as sensitivity is below 90. Bump it up to 90, coil in the air nowhere near metal, and it starts pulsing overload audio.

Maybe cause your sensitivity is at 90. Ive ran gold racer for along time and ive never found any soil that I could detect with the sensitivity higher then 75. Thats in all metal. I dont use disc much since I only detect mostly gold. It has been a good detector. I find gold everytime I use it.

I've seen the gold you have found, real nice. I don't have gold nearby and use it in an urban environment for small gold jewelry; besides it's the lightest machine I own too.
I probably would have never noticed it had I saved my settings because I rarely search using more than about 85. Factory default is 90 so when I turned it on one day with the small coil it went bonkers with the overload.
I suppose I could save my settings and keep my sensitivity below 90 but that doesn't address the problem.

The problem came back, overload using small coil with sensitivity 90 and above, and Makro quickly took care of it.
