Lower Rod

Elusion

Member
I can't believe the price on the lower rod for the 3030. I really miss having one for my extra coils. What are the chances an aftermarket one could come out at a lower price? Is the high cost associated with the carbon fiber or what?

I think MSRP is around $175 for it.... Paying pretty much the same amount would buy you a Minelab Pro-find pinpointer. I can't justify it in my head (or wallet).

I checked when I got my extra coils. It is really stupid what they want for one. I will just change the coils out on the factory rod that is wearing where the cam lock is fast. I know how to repair it by sanding and adding a little fresh varnish. Carbon fiber is not cheap but they should be able to sell them for $75 and still be making a 50% mark up on them. Would like to have a couple but like you I can not justify it.

I'm a newbie here but I've got a question to ask. Are the lower rods on the ctx 3030 wearing out faster than other detectors or is it a ctx problem. I just ordered a ctx today with the standard 11" coil and I got to thinking that maybe I sould order the 6" coil too, maybe with its own lower coil to make it easier to change over. Welcome any advise. Thank you

They aren't wearing out, but it's nice to have a lower shaft already attached to your extra coil for an easy change in the field (ie no struggling getting the cord up the center). Lower shaft for CTX is $175, Elusion was correct.

ok got it . thanks for comeback detectordepot, appreciate it. I guess I'm not paying enough attention. I didn't realize cord ran up center of rod. Either never change coils or buy a 275.00 coil and a 175.00 rod, wow making my investment jump up there, lol. Oh well its suppose to be in the name of fun.

Always for fun! The extra coils are worth it in the end so don't rule them out, you have a better chance at finding treasure in trashy areas with the 6" coil that other detectors wouldn't even come close to finding. Proven itself multiple times for us. HH

They are very expensive for sure. With what they are made if the materials arent cheap!

On most machines extra lower rod is advantageous. On the Minelab CTX I find it almost as fast to just swap the coil and use 1 rod. With a little experience it goes really fast.

Mine is wearing pretty quick where the cam lock is at. Would like to hear how others are making out. The varnish has worn off all the way down to the carbon fiber.

Re varnish it before it is to late.:drinking:
I always extend and clean the rod with a soft cloth before I retract it and I can`t See scratch on it after 5 months of use. :detecting:

I always spray mine down with plain water in a spray bottle before I change shafts. No wear here and daily use since August. I have all three coils and have a shaft for each. I think it makes for a cleaner and quicker change (for me) and would not want to fish the coil wire up the shaft each time. You can get them well $175 by the way.

For me there is no advantage at all with having another shaft. It takes about 2 to 3 minutes to change the coil on the shaft. I suppose it might be a tad quicker to do the lower shaft attached to the coil but the only time saved is the unscrewing of the coil bolts and re-attaching them. And most of us are similar, we dont change the coils every day or two. $175 for the shaft IMHO is absurd!

I always wipe the lower shaft down with a soft cloth after a hunt and since June have no scratches on the lower shaft. It is holding up just great.

Yeah both my cams on the CTX shafts are wearing terribly I'm on the verge of going down the warranty road.
.
As one does not even stop when fully extended and just pulls completely out instead of stopping at the cam.

Considering there only a few months old and all., and this is not through mistreatment in any way.

When my CTX came back from repair for the upper rod at the grip waring I asked them to replace the cam lock as it no longer held the lower rod from spinning. It would not allow the coil to fall out but it would change angle if you bumped it or placed the coil on the ground and pick the detector back up. I found that little guide at the top of the lower shaft very worn. The replaced the upper shaft along with the cam lock but sent back the old lower shaft. It fixed the problem for a shorth time, I am seeing movement again. I have lost a lot of hunting time do the the storm so I think that has exstended the life a bit.I am thinking this is going to continue to be a problem.

I personally did buy extra shafts for the extra coils. I find it easier in the field and what if you drop one of the black nuts in a bean field then you would be really stuck. Yes the are expensive and detecting is an expensive hobby now days but what isnt. When I go out to hunt now I have the frame of mind that I have the best piece of equipment on the market and its up to me to find the items. Have buddies at work that ride bikes for a hobby, they have spent over 4,000.00 on a bike, now thats crazy in my mind!
Keep on swinging, JOHN

So where is your problem ?

The main shaft cam lock not locking tight

or the lower shaft cam wearing or already worn ?

Or both?
