Darn, I wish could send a picture cause I'm so excited I'm about to pee my pants. Found a LARGE CENT tonight. It's one the "matron head" cents made from 1816-1839. It's pretty worn and the date is mostly gone. Although if I really strain my eyes, it looks like the last number is a 6 and the third number MIGHT be a 3. It might be worn, but it's the prettiest thing I've seen in a while. Let's see- firsts: first 1800's coin, first one over 100 years old, first large cent, first pre Civil War coin. I always considered the large cent to be more of a New England kinda coin and never expected to find one here in NE Wisconsin. I know you're gonna ask, so it was only about 3.5 inches deep and gave me a clear steady half dollar signal.
I dug out my old 35mm camera and with any luck I'll have some pictures in a few days. I have to drop off the film to be processed - if anybody still remembers those daysbefore digital.
