Yesterday I ran into a fellow ive met a few
times while :detecting: He invited me
to a seeded hunt on Sunday about a hr
from here on private land..about 9 or 10 ppl
will be there .. its not a club thing

I thought about it and said thanks but no tks
To me a seeded hunt seems like playing golf
and not having to make any putts under 3 ft..
part of the fun to me if NOT knowing what if
anything is under the coil... even if the stuff
they put in the ground is prety good,, its still
not for me..
just curious about your opinions

I tend to agree with you on this. Part of the hunt is the not knowing. I relax when detecting, and don't want to feel like I'm in competition.

I'm fairly new to this detecting, but I have to agree. I have no interest in a seeded hunt. It's kinda like metal detecting with training wheels.

:usaflag:As a hoarder...ahem...I mean collector of coins, I might partake if it did'nt cost anything..and someone else was driving..haha!! But I agree...it's way more fun the traditional way.

I attended one recently in North Dakota and I did well considered it was my first one.
There was about 40 people detecting there in five half hour hunts total. Met lots of interesting people.
The secret is to get a detector that you know well I used the ACE 250 with the 12 inch coil using the coin program
Its a mad scramble as the coins are 1 to 3 inches deep.
Used the Pro Pointer to help me find the coin faster, and I could see the people who did not have one struggle to find the coins.
Any other ACE close to mine would drive my ACE 250 crazy so stayed away from those lol
Speed and know what your doing is the key to lots of finds.

:usaflag:Joel. Were you at the MARG hunt in Grand Rapids? My local detecting friends Jim Kochevar and Jim Shauer were there with their wives. Said it was fun with the exception of the occasional lightning storms.

That was the one except it was held at a new location in Lisbon ND.
The other site was prone to flooding so they held it at this new location.
How did your friends make out as far as finds ?

Never dug up any token as those would have given a bill prize .

I realize that this wasn't a club hunt, but a seeded hunt is always fun because you know you're going to come away with something and not get skunked. You may find more than what was planted. At our clubs annual hunt held last month we had planted silver coins and tokens for various prizes. In addition three people found items that were not planted, one of them being a gold ring. To see our winners and pictures of the hunt go to http://gthclub.org/10hunt.

I joined a club here in Texas a couple months ago, were gonna have a night hunt in August. I entered....I think it will be a hoot! The first 30 min. is totally
black out. Not even backlights on detectors allowed..then after that we can use small penlights, head lights, or the little light on the Pro Pointer...in my case..heck I'm kinda looking forward to it!:)

Mat in MS that looks like a great outing.
Lots of good prizes that attract lots of participants.!

Go for it! It will give you the opportunist to test yourself on how fast you can pull targets out from the ground,

I wouldn't mind going to a seeded hunt as long as I could afford the entry fee.

John; Cost was $100 US plus what it cost to get there and motel for two nights. Cheap entertainment for :detecting:
