Long Range Detectors

will cross each other when over metal.....

Yes they will ... and if coins, rings, etc. were only lost in clean ground, a couple of L-shaped pieces of small diameter rod would be all you would need to find most of those items. However, humans have been very bad about spreading metallic trash everywhere they have gone on the face of the earth, whether it a piece of foil, a pull tab, a nail, a screw, a piece of wire, a broken axe head, etc. etc. etc., the list is endless, so you need something with discrimination capabilities or you would spend excessive amounts of time digging junk. That is where the modern metal detector comes in. Also, small coils can be used to reduce the number of targets the dectector "sees" at one time and help pull good targets out of iron-infested sites, but the dowsing rods will be effected by objects a little farther away, not just those targets directly below the rods, so when there are multiple targets in a small area, they will tend to be affected by, and therefore steer you to, the largest metal object that is nearby, not necessarily the most valuable object or a certain type of metal you are seeking. Also, I think the long range dowsing rods that are being sold are a gimmick.

I'd guess they wouldn't be effective near a busy street......back and forth, back and forth, left to right, right to left ...may make a good speed limit detector also,,,,,,,,,gimme a break!
