Little quiet around.:garrett:

Apparently the weather has most hunters hunkered down, as most forums seem to be pretty quiet.

Although we are in the freezer down here in south west Tn, I have managed to hunt the last two mornings.Yesterday's hunt turned out to be a short one. I was back in the woods swinging along when I realized I hadn't heard a beep for a while. Although not altogether un-common in the woods, usually there is the occasional tic or grunt here and there. Anyway, as it turned out my headphone adapter had croaked and no sound was coming into the phones. I did have a backup adapter in my ditty bag back in my vehicle, but at that point I didn't know if it was the adapter or maybe even my Grey Ghosts, so I called it a wrap. As mentioned, it was the adapter. I emailed Garrett and relayed the situation to customer service and promptly heard back from Hilda. Within 30 minutes Garrett was sending me a new adapter, no charge. Don't know if this is common with the adapters, but you may want to keep a backup on hand. CAN'T BEAT THAT KIND OF SERVICE!

This morning I did get in 3 hours, but saves were a couple pieces of junk jewelry, 2 wheats and some clad and cents. Not yet sure about tomorrow, though. Single digits tonight with a high tomorrow of 30. No wind, though, and the woods here are always dig-gable. Oh, those hand warmer packs work nicely for keeping fingers and hands warm.

O.K., Next. HH jim tn

far below normal my friend

Jim, I'm about to burst it get out and do some detecting. With these freezing temperatures most of the ground is frozen and hard to dig in. The woods are the best bet!

It just amazes me how older coins in the woods don't sink more than they do. I've kicked leaves around and found wheat pennies right on top of the ground.

This weekend the temps look a little better.

Yeah, the weather forecast is a real bug killer.

Yeah, we be good if we can get through tomorrow. I guess the shrubs and vegetation holds the coins shallower and along with the leaves keeps the ground from freezing. (in our part of the world) HH jim tn

The extreme cold came a month early here. Then the winter has been a weird roller coaster with short mild periods. Quite strange. I remember seeing John E. beeping in the winter years ago, and I try to do it now and then. I got out a week or two ago and didn't find much, but it was fun to get out.
:detecting:

I can dress well enough for temps in the teens as long as the wind isn't blowing if I am in open spaces. Our ground will freeze in the likes of parks, school yards, spots with only grass cover. I, however, have never had a problem digging in the woods. HH jim tn

You might have a problem diggin the woods this year buddy...when Houston's got ice, we all got a problem..and today Houstons got ice..up here, we dont expect to see 30 degrees up here in the foreseeable future, which means May...so cold I saw a Michigan Politician with his hands in a Tennessean tourists pockets!

Still, you should be able to get out and hunt in your neck of the woods...at least I hope you can... Keep us going, OK?

I drove down to Oh this week, all the gas stations are selling gas in frozen cubes instead of by the gallon, got it stacked up like cordwood out front.....tossed a handful of clad out the window when I got to Elton's exit on the turnpike, it all shattered when it hit the ground, but it made me feel better!...barely made it there, and barely made it home, even the air in my tires froze...a feller sure would not last long outdoors in this mess, I dont care how prepared you are!...so cold up here they are shooting Snowy Owls at our airport...seriously!

Say they might get sucked into and engine and cripple a plane, not kidding on this one, they've shot 9 Snowy Owls at GRR this year, says they snuck through security, but didn't have a boarding pass, said they were sitting around at the Airport bar trying to catch a flight to Fla. eating all the snacks and not paying the tab, bartender kept asking for money, owls kept saying "who, who, who?" after a week or so the law was called in, one thing we dont tolerate up here in Michigan is a bunch of Snowy Owls hanging around at our airport making a mess at the bar and causing trouble!.......we also got reports of seals popping up through the ice into icefishermens shantys, drinking their coffee, and eating all their minnows! Schools are on lockdown, polar bear was sighted here last week...guy who saw it said it was wearing a wolverine for a hat, and a black bear for a coat...

Never would have guessed you are iced in and snow bound. Our woods are fine. Been in them pretty much everyday this week and no problem digging. Just not hitting anything good. besides a few wheat cents. Some of the guys are probably out of hibernation today and all will be tomorrow. Tabman will be out for sure tomorrow and probably without a shirt. Going to be in the mid to upper 40's. Hadn't seen any posts by you for a few days, mud, and was thinking your wife had dragged you to a warmer climate and you would be posting all the gold you found from the souther beaches. Ohio, though, is probably warmer. You and Elton should have hooked up. He is always ready for a good hunt this time of the year...........if the spot is at least as far south as the Keys. HH jim tn

No doubt! All the time I spent driving I was thinking about detecting! Does that count? I had a few moments to scope out some hunting areas from the road and made a mental note of the nearest exits...I hope we get some posts of finds this weekend to keep me in the house...I hope by gosh, you find that "one long sought" tomorrow!

One of these days I'll pull off and call Elton and just take a moment to relax and talk...seems the only time a fellow can really relax is either with headphones on, or talking detecting with somebody.

Yeah Jim, I'm on go for some woods hunting tomorrow. I'm not planning on an early start. Maybe you'll find a gold coin tomorrow.

I've been on the run all week with doctor's appointments for Mama or myself. It's been way beyond normal cold in our area of Ga and the high today was 39, but the wind chill was 23. I've really wanted to get out if for nothing else but an hour, but just can't seem to make it happen. Hopefully, if Mama is feeling okay tomorrow, I'm going to my first coin show in my life at the Ga. National Fair in Perry, Ga. Looking forward to it as a new experience. Heard on the news that Valdosta, Ga was tearing out some sidewalks and anybody in that area might find some good finds. It's too far for me to drive even for silver coins, but any member living near there might get lucky.

The Memphis area is gonna have a glorious day for detecting Saturday.:detecting:

The weather here in upstate NY has been too cold to do much detecting. The ground is frozen as hard as cement. I been thinking about moving to Alaska where the weather is warmer.

Here's the local forecast vs. Anchorage. Where would you rather be?

Dang!! Alaska for sure Dancin' Dave, grubbing for nuggets of the AU variety. :ninja: And Fongu, we got a coin show up this way next weekend and looking forward to it. Depending on how big that one in Perry is your are gonna love it. So much eye candy!!!

I have been getting out the last few weekends. Always sunny in California.:detecting: Although, we are in a severe drought.:( But that doesn't stop the schools from watering their grass! It just stops me from hunting parks due to hard ground. HH everyone.

I only got to stay for 2-1/2 hours, but so much gold coins, silver proof sets, supplies, fossils and meteorites and books. It was a blast while it lasted. I planned to stay until it closed at 5 pm , but something I ate made me sick. Met several dirt fishers from around the area and entered a raffle for some coins including 1 dollar gold coin and 2-1/2 dollar gold coin and silver coins. Hope I win, but I'm not counting on it. Several of the vendors told me if I had brought my metal detectors, they would have let me scan the gold coins and see how they scan on the GTI-2500 & At/Pro. I definitely need to modify my scoop with some 1/4 inch hardware cloth. I thought those 1 dollar gold coins were larger than they were. It would go thru the holes on my scoop, I believe. I have two 30 X loupes but bought another one because it had a led light on it. They had a lighthouse usb microscope and stand I wanted, but I just didn't have enough dough to get one. They are having a huge coin show the last of February thru March 1 in Cobb county, Ga and I hope to make it to this show, if possible. Several collectors had some 1858 Flying Eagle cents, but nobody had the 1856 or 1857. One vendor told me he had one but sold it for $15,000 a few months ago, the 1856 that is. Happy hunting.

Yeah Fongu, those small denomination gold coins are tiny. Quite sure that's the reason very few are found. That huge show in Atlanta (February 27 - March 1) would be awesome!! 100's of tables!! You might have to roll some clad and buy yourself some gold there ha ha ha:detecting::clapping: And good luck on the gold coin raffles, and lots of pictures if you do win one please....:bouncy:

I sure would post some photos, but I think somebody else won. It was my first coin show and a great experience. The guy at the nuismatic association table said they would have some educational classes at the show in Atlanta and I hope I can make it. I'm pumped to find some gold now. Always wanted to find some, but have a better understanding of what I'm looking for. HH.

Wow! I've never been to a coin show either! But it sounds like a place that I would really enjoy, cool! I've gotta do it!...
Fongu, you are really just now starting to rock the gold, since late summer...you got the hang of it right away, I think you might be a natural, and now that you have the diving aspect ready to deploy..I'm expecting some good things from you Brother!:clapping:
