The inherent “problem”( not really a problem per sé, just an unknown variable) is that while the list of coils that found various things is long and impressive, it does not in any way indicate whether or not any of the other coils available for FBS listed or otherwise would have found the same target. Perhaps he simply used that coil more. I might add as a qualifier...the potential statement such as,”I’ve been over this area several times with different coils and THIS particular one found X” doesn’t count for much in the real world. Personally I would consider all of the environmental influences encountered on any particular hunt on a given day MORE of a variable than any “coil vs coil” difference. Not saying there aren’t different capabilities of different coils, I know better. And not to mention settings, individual skill levels....etc etc. If you do a Google search comparing the 10x12 vs the Ultimate 13 vs the Pro coil, you will get just as many votes for one as for the other. I could personally go on and on about how great the Ultimate has been, it’s been great. But I’ve never even USED the 10x12, so that would limit the validity of my claims to just that....used the coil a lot, found a lot of stuff. Did I sweep these hundreds of targets with other coils I brought with me? Of course not, nobody does that, unless they‘re running a well put together test, and they know what they’re doing.
I’ve found a few of my best finds EVER with a machine I don’t even USE anymore. Pointing to one coil or another and saying “Use that!” isn’t necessarily going to produce anything. Having a few coils for a machine seems to be a good plan of action to at least have options. There are well known and prolific Etrac users on another forum who use NOTHING but the Pro coil, and come up with astounding numbers every year. There are others who use anything BUT the Pro coil and do the same. That tells me that a lot of the coil capability is very similar, it’s the OPERATOR which is the biggest variable of all.
