Does anyone have the memo from fisher when they stated about honoring lifetime warranties with the units from from the original fisher company? Talked with them today and they said oney the CZ 20's as far as they knew would be honored, that it.... That is not they way I remember the memo saying. any help finding the original response would be very helpful...Thanks

Not true, do you know who you talked to today?
Here is the original released statement shortly after we aquired Fisher Labs.

Mike Scott
Director of Hobby Sales

Dear Metal Detector Enthusiast,

As the new Fisher management team, we are dedicated to committing the resources and expertise necessary to support and grow your Fisher metal detector business.

In the upcoming months we will be laying out a new Fisher line-up for sale late this fall along with plans for some very exciting technologies that we will be unleashing in 2007.

While committing to this new investment, we also find it necessary to adjust certain aspects of the current Fisher program

I bought my oldest boy a Fisher 1212X because it was American made and had a lifetime warranty. Well obviously niether of those things means anything anymore to them so I will never in my life time buy another Fisher product or all any of my three sons to spend their money on anything made by Fisher as long as they live under my roof! So now I guess I am getting Tesoro's for me adn the boys! Prior to this I was going to stick with Fisher. I was going to get a 1270 for Christmas but not know. I was also considering a GoldBug II but again not now! I can not stand it when a company does not honor their warranty or gives people hassels like requireing them to maintain proof of ownership and such! If if they want to do it that way maybe they should just do away with their dealerships all together and do all sales directly from the factory so they can record all the information in their data base so as not to accidently service a customers equipment for free. When you look at how little it cost to manufacture a metal detector compared to their retail price the profit margin is insane! Their margin is far exceeds the oil companies or automanufactures and just about anything else! When you look at how tooling cost and such as long as they keep a design for a while as far as the circuit boards and the coils the cost is marginal at best. I am guessing that $10 is the most expensive any of these mass produced detectors cost to manufacture. So if their warranty cost is so high that they can not afford to maintain their life time warranty it means they are building a junk product or have really poor quality control. So in one fell swoop Fisher has managed to loose me, my three sons, my wife, two of my friends that asked me what brand to get and anyone I will ever talk to about metal detectors!!!

Tesoro does not make you present a reciept in fact they made all of their detectors previous to their lifetime warranty retroactively life time warrantied. So if you buy a used one off Ebay and it breaks you are covered! That alone is enough to win my business! Luepold Optics and Buriss Optics are the same way it does not matter if you are the origanal owner or the 15th owner if it breaks send it back no questions asked and they fix it! I do not know yet if I am going to let this affect my decision to buy First Texas Products or not! SInce they are the parent company ultimately they are the responable party. If First Texas Products was smart they would have left well enough alone since Fisher is considered a high end product. They really have no idea how to market a high end brand or manage it either obviously since they have managed to alienate almost anyone that has ever owned a Fisher and needed warranty service.

I sent them an email that was at least two paragraphs long the other day after reading this. I had questions about their warranty and support for the 1212X since you still see some old stock for sale online. I got a three word answere back. In fact according to the reply I got even the stock 8 inch coil that came on it from the factory is no longer available. So I am going to ask a dealer because I think I got the run around for asking to many questions that they did not want to answere. I also asked if they had plans to support the rest of the 1200 series because I did not want to buy a 1270 and a GoldBug II if they where going to stop supporting all the products that came before First Texas bought them. I also asked them if they could tell wich models of Fisher's where useing Bounty Hunter Circuit Boards. Seeing how their a huge price difference I wanted to know? I asked if the the crystal inside the 1212X could be changed to make the electronics operate at the freq of all the other 1200 series like the 1225 and 1236 etc.... so I could use thiier coils. I did not get answeres to any of those questions just "Their are No coils for the 1212 at this time."

So they just cost themself a lot of sales! Most of my friends wait for me to do the research and then they tend to buy what ever I buy. It does nto mattr if we are talking car's,rifles, computers or metal detectors! Heck even motor oil!!! SInce I use M1 they all use M1! They know I am picky and like quality.

It looks to me like Fisher hasn't failed you nearly as much as your own behavior of making a decision before thoroughly researching it prior to the purchase. That surprises me since you're supposed to be the ace "front man" for your consumer flock. Everyone is entitled to their own criteria based on their values, etc.. but isn't it more effective to do all the homework before the fact instead of afterwards and then rant about it, which won't change a thing? Well, won't change a thing unless your real intent was to affect future sales of Fisher?

The 1212 coil is hardwired and you will not find any "spares" anywhere. Fisher doesnt want just anybody installing hard-wired coils. I checked and was told you could send your machine in and get a new coil wired at the factory.

I expect a lot from American Companies! A promise is a promise! My Detectors litature specificly says "Life Time Warranty" nothing on mine says anything about 5 years! It does not say you have to do back to the dealership that you bought it from and it does not say that you will be charged an arm and a leg for your "Life TIme Warranty" services! It does not say youa re required to present proof that you are the origanal owner etc......... That is all non-sense that has come into being since Fisher was sold. I have not had to use their service and hopefully I never will! It is too bad though since this little unit is a great entry level detector! Their are still Dealerships online that list these units as haveing a lifetime warranty as well. Most of the reviews also list the lifetime warranty as a selling point. Nothing is worse then when a company over promise's then under delivers. On top of that their is no excuse for them not to answere my questions about how long they intend to support their 1200 series? Their is no reason why they could not answere my tech. question. Those where legitimate consumer level questions that they choose to ignore. Their is no reason that should have ignored my questions about the current warranty on those products that came with a life time warranty and whose dealers have since gone out of business. I was very polite but also concerned. Even their pdf. documents mention the "LifeTime Warranty" so if you merely read the old pdf. documents and did not know that you needed to ask about their new policy on not honoring most of their life time warranties how would a new consumer know to even ask?

No their customer service was not good. They choose to avoid answereing all of my questions. When you type someone almost a full page of questions and concerns from a consumer stand point and the only responce you get is "Their are not any coils for the 1212X available at this time." That is not good customer service!!!!

I will say this though I contacted First Texas's Bounty Hunter divison and not only got prompt service but very friendly service. In fact they went above and beyound and sent me much more information then I had asked for on one of their older products that I have recently purchased! So Bounty Hunter get's a thumb's up for great customer service.........

I do not have a problem with Fisher's new 5 year warranty on their products since it is slowly being changed on various web sites. My problem is with them honoring the spirit of the old life time warranty. If you do not have principals and morals and ethics and are not going to honor what the company origanaly had for thier warranty then why even keep the name? They obviously wanted a premium name since Bounty Hunter is not associated with premium products! Fisher has built a reputation for produceing some of the finest products in the hobby market and they have a great history of produceing Naval and Army mine detectors. Their History and product reliability, performance and warranty where all important to me. It came down to them or Tesoro. I chose incorrectly I see that now but this is before I was aware of all the changes that had taken place with Fisher.

I also want to add that Garrets has been great with me as well. I did some research for a realitive of mine that needed some stuff for an old Garrett Ground Hog that has been in his attic for a long long time and their customer service department was absolutely a joy to deal with!!! They even called me to make sure Ihad recieved the pdf. file they sent me. I had not checked that mail box in a few days so I did not know they had sent them so fast. TO me that is going above and beyound and I respect that!

So their is nothing at all wrong with my behavior or attitude! If anything their is something wrong with the current Fisher's attitude and behavior in how they treat their customer's! Now if they decide to step up and behave like the company they used to be and can answere simple questions like "How long they intend to continue to service and support the 1200 series." and they decide to stop heckleing anyone with a lifetime warranty and just repair their stuff as promised then I will change my mind!

Very casual! The memo said they would honor such warranties. Talked with Felix and he did not say that... your responseis very in accurate.. Thanks, anyway for your help!

The Lifetime Warranty with Fisher is still in affect.

I am a Fisher Authorized Dealer. I still have lifetime warranted Fishers in stock, and I advertise so. The Fisher company stands behind this.

Had you spent a little time reading the post here on this thread you would have noticed a post from Mike Scott, Director of Hobby Sales for Fisher, answering the Lifetime Warranty question. Perhaps you should have done a little homework before spouting off

So I finally caught up with this thread. I'm sure anything I'm about to say has already been said, but let's make this more legit. There should never be a question to the authenticity of the almighty Lifetime Warranty. A Lifetime Warranty is... well... lifetime. But it is still limited which is boldly stated on the back of the warranty card which I have provided an image of. We only ask for a proof of purchase if the unit has not been registered and a valid warranty card cannot be provided. No harm in that. It also states that a $25 fee will apply to the warranty repair if the unit is over two years old from date of purchase. History shows, we do not and have not tried to jack up this price even once since the lifetime was offered. However, there, of course, will be charges if the lifetime warranty guidelines have not been met or the owner does not abide by these guidelines. It's simple and clear, and if there are ever questions even after the fact, we will always find a way to work with our customers.

1212x coils. Yes, they are hardwired into the unit. No, we do not condone selling them. This is not to be harsh or put anyone out, but simply to protect the customer and ourselves for any future mishaps with the machines functioning or not after a possible replacement. I have already brought this issue up with our CEO, and we will still build the coils and sell them, but more often to our authorized service centers and the few who have actually convinced us they have electronics skills. Why anyone was told that we do not have the coils is absurd. But I will have to make it clear, if we sell the coils to just anybody, we cannot be held responsible for a new installation not working when it was done outside of our facility or one of our authorized service centers. I've mentioned before, please call or email me direct if you are uncertain of what we have to offer and what we don't.

Last, but not least, let's take a few steps back and look at the grand picture of things. In reality, any company/manufacturer knows they have to make profit. Imports, exports, shipping, receiving, producing, cleaning, inspecting, electricity, water, telephones, computers, machines, supplies, factory/warehouse, design, advertising/marketing, packaging, repair, orders, processing and so much more play a part in getting you the detector you use today. I'm taking a leap with this, but as a voice for the Fisher company, in no way would we jeopardize the business by overpricing for better profit. This is why there are options for each and every dealer and end-user to correspond and make deals. There are plenty of outlets to be a leader, but a true leader stands among the group, not in front.

If I have left anything out or there may still be questions, I'm all eyes and ears. :)

hello bobbie!
there has been some discussion that the cz-3d varies in the tuning "spec" from unit to unit based on personal users obsevations from actual results in the field!..what is fisher's official position on this matter?..thankyou!

and stating most of the components that make up the total delivered cost of units to the dealers and then the customers. I think there are some here that make posts and have no clue what actually goes into arriving at a cost. Hopefully they'll take a moment to think and grasp how many things impact the manufacturing and delivered cost of any product before they just index to the "we're being screwed" point of view.

Depends on what you mean by "tuning spec." If they're referring to something they read, there was an issue where someone had the specs for a different CZ model, and they were announcing it as the 3D specs. Not to say this is the case. As far as the tuning goes for each unit, the process for the tuning in our factory has never changed. However, not every unit is 100% identical, so results will vary.

thanks!,however your answer begs the question if the process used to tune is the same, then why do the results vary from unit to unit?

I've asked this question myself, and the answer I tend to get is, results vary simply because not every component used to produce even a PC board by itself are identical. This has to do with the quality of the parts that we receive from suppliers. A supplier will make a batch of transistors for us, and not all of them will have identical output. So the tuning procedure is the same on all the units, but the results will vary once the units are used. It sounds slightly unorthodox, but that's how it goes. Have you ever bought a package of light bulbs and had one bulb burn brighter than another? ;)
