Legend in modern trash

Analog machines had the ability to blend tones to a degree. So much information there. The only detectors I have used that were digital that seemed to have that ability are the etrac ,CTX and White's "spectra" machines. Explorers as well although I haven't used one but heard too many say their tones were the best ML ever came up with. They weren't able to carry that over in the NOX nor did NM or Deus.
I know a lot of guys kinda gauge these newer machines worth by how they find and identify nickels so well..My Explorer SE is spot on with nickels,at depth too.. But yea,the explorer tones are really second to none Imo

I started with an early Soveriegn which I still have……went to other machines including and still have an Etrac…
Then turned around and completely rearanged vid numbers and bought an Explorer SE that I tore apart and made it my beach machine….Fabulous machine with telling tones with nuances galore

Now onto the Legend …..a lighter machine that I hope will do it all !

I don’t use the vdi or numbers what can i say
Neither do I. But a high conductor sounding like foil certainly needs to be addressed.

By the way, earlier I said that Simplex behaves the same way with foil… it does. But it also needs to be compared to other single frequency VLF machines in this regard, as it might be Achilles heel for all of them (at least the ones operating at 12 kHz).

I see your point and you have very wise information to always add. As i say i am an odd duck lol but to my point and again just way i look at it if you are primarily a dig almost everything person especially if you are hunting jewelry, old relic items, etc does it really matter if the high conductive target sounds like foil or not because foil and jewelry could be hard to distinguish, either way in my case going to dig it anyway.
I was just asking pertaining to my case if it would be worth even updating if I basically dig just about everything.
If it sounds like silver ill dig, if it sounds like foil ill dig. The only thing i might not dig depending on what im in mood to look for is iron. So I would be happy with two tones one for ferrous and one for everything else.
Now i can understand how everyone wants to distinguish silver from iron or foil, etc especially coin hunting.
I don’t care if it’s conductive, non conductive im basically digging it all just sometimes don’t feel like digging iron is all

Here we go again.
Has anyone tried this with gold and silver rings.
At this point I'm beginning to wonder if this is more of an electronics overload condition.
Not so much an overload signal.
More as in the the electronic return signal from that much aluminum is saturating the deciphering algorithms to such a degree it's causing a buffering effect. Pulling out the strongest signal. The aluminum signal.
OK maybe a little over the top.
Hopefully you get my thoughts.
Though a test with silver and gold rings could be enlightening ...
Still down and out.
I won't be able to do this for months at least. Truly appreciate y'all doing these posts.

What I was getting perturbed at today was the amount of older aluminum (or tin foil) foil that was showing 40s VDI. Tones were clear and some one way and others two way so they got dug. Foil should be low teens maybe 20s, not mid 40s. Also, I’m noticing since installing 09 that VDI seems to change a bit depending on which mode you are in. Meanwhile 4khz was a predator on silver today that at least five other machines missed, two being my F series Fishers.

For those of you who dig just about everything, and don’t rely on VID #s, you might be better off with a Tesoro detector….They’re fast, deep, and very light weight!….and no numbers to deal with….
Funny you should say that.
When i sold all my detectors the last two i sold was my tesoro vaquero and minelab excalliber.
I had six Tesoro’s and three minelabs in all.
Believe me when i just got back into the hobby the first thing i did was look for tesoro and to my surprise they were out of business. As whites
So i looked at what was out there and said what the heck is a Nokta Makro and here i am.
No just didn’t want used and wasn’t paying $600 for a left over Cibola.
NM legend actually had everything I wished my tesoro had. Its light the main thing, right frequencies, waterproof.
The built in battery was the only draw back to me, prefer to swap out a 9 volt but the smf option outweighed that.
Yes i am an odd duck when it comes to metal detecting a simple beep and dig machine is all i actually need.
To me the hobby is more of therapy.
A break from the monotony, by myself away from people. Really care less what i find. I do like the technical aspects and yeah enjoy talking and arguing with you guys 😁

I just recently sold my Vaquero !…..Great little detector !

I put a clad quarter in between 2 pieces of foil approx the same size….The foil on each side was about 1 inch away….I couldn’t read the Quarter…..moved the foil 2 inches away on each side and was able to hit the quarter……This was using the 6 inch coil in M1…It didn’t make a difference adjusting the recovery speed…
Replying to my own post…again with the 6 inch coil…I adjusted my iron filter down to 1 running in M2 with the foil an inch away from the quarter on either side….still couldn‘t read the quarter UNTIL I raised the coil up about 3 - 4 inches above the quarter and foil…Hmmmmm !….It was like the coil acted as a concentric coil and zeroed in on the quarter !….As soon as I lowered the coil to about an inch above the targets, no more quarter….So what I sumize is maybe the iron filter works better at depth than it does with surface targets… Try it for yourself…..

I just recently sold my Vaquero !…..Great little detector !
The Vaquero was actually my favorite from Tesoro had two of them 😁 and in the top three of all my favorites. The sovereign gt and excalliber Ii being the others.
Had Cibola, umax, sand shark.
To me the Legend is a bit of all of them in one.
The best features of the Legend to me is Light, 5 good frequencies to choose from, able to choose running in vlf or smf, and waterproof.
Had i not sold my Vaquero probably would just be using that although its not the best thing on the beach.
To get a used vaquero I didn’t see being worth it, for a couple hundred more a new Legend, warranty and all the extra features was a no brainer.
Not sure when you sold yours and how much but used now are going for what they were new if you can find one.

What version you running, curious how it reads with V1.07 vs V 1.09

The Legend can be used as a simple beep and dig and just cherry picking features to use like frequency, bt headphones, etc. thats what i basically do. It is really a versatile machine
