Last Weeks Finds

The 1939D Merc and the Silver Ring are from the Gun Powder Mill that I found last weekend. The soil in the section that I hunted was pretty boggy, the dime as almost completely black and the .925 ring I cleaned up a little. The ring says .925 on one end and E-M on the other. I'm not to sure what the stone is, but I can say my wife doesn't care, she still wants it set in another band, I'll have to find out what the stone is (most likely glass).. The 1934 Merc I dug out of the local school I've been hunting this summer. It was 6 1/2 inches down at a nice 83 VDI reading, and the first find of the day. I now for the stumper, a few feet away from the 1934 Mercury, i got another hit at 7 inches down with a 83 VDI reading. I dug down about 6-7 inches and pulled out a bright silver Rosie, so I thought. I could not read the date because I was not wearing my glasses. When I finish hunting the school I went home to check out the dates on the dime's and the Merc was a dime my son needed and now to check the dime. It read1999, 6-7 inches down and it was 1999? I know my battery pack was getting pretty low, but 1999. I'm still stumped on that one.
All finds were stock setting on the Coin and the coil was the 5.3, it's been working great since the few sights I hunt have been turning up silver between 5-7 inches. Thanks for looking, Ron in Henrietta NY

Nice going Ron! I know what you mean about deep clad coins. It happens to me in some places. I think my worst has been a zinc penny at 8 inches....dirt must have been moved somehow or maybe it was a sandy type soil????

Ahh....the deep clad still gets the heart to thumping though! (Think of it as one of our cardio workouts!) Very nice hunt and:thumbup:

You did good Ron and that stone could well be a real blue topaz.

Damn those gophers hoarding all the zinc..... I swear they must love the shiny copper color and bring it down into their dens.

Not sure how much color distortion is on that picture from the camera or flash, but it does appear (like Larry said) to be a light to medium Blue Topaz. Unless the stone is really scratched up, then it may be glass. All the glass stones I have found (a lot of them circa 1900), have been very scratched up. Nice finds.
