Rob, (rcasio44) stopped in on his way home from TX and I took him to do some relic hunting today. After 30 years of hunting I found my first Half Dime, an1841. Another half dime was found in this same field a week ago by our club president and he beat mine as the oldest for the year.........so far....... His was the 1839 he posted last week. I added some relics to my meager collection including what looks like the start of a carved three ringer, even the 69 cal musket ball has the start of a saw mark on it. The three small bullets under the Half Dime are the smallest I think I have ever seen, they look smaller than a .22, but I will have to measure them and see...and look at the small shot the V3 picked up, that was just unbelievable. The small bullets came in at a VDI of three, loud and clear and I think the shot was a +1 on the VDI.

Hi Larry -

Until I saw the pics I wondered why you were so excited about a nickel!! Congrats!!!

That field is producing some good CW relics. I would pound that till he plants crops. Maybe a US plate in there somewhere you will know it if you walk over it. If get something that sounds like a soda can dig it.I think the small bullets maybe modern at least the one in the middle with the crimp mark is. Nice carved bullet he also cut the bottom ring off. Good luck.

That is a pretty coin and some nice stuff.Great Job Larry. H.H. Yazoo

Thanks Hang, I did found a whole Eagle button, to the right of the bullets, but as you can see the fertilizer used in the fields really does a lot of damage. That is why mostly button backs are found there.

That is too funny Nugget......

Great job Larry! Glad you made it back and got a real nice goodie! Im headin down sunday morning to check out another spot thats been producing. its not that field or the place across the road but a different spot. i am going across the road though to do some pit probing. maybe some goodies for me though. keep on hunting it, im glad i could point you guys to a good relic spot! see you at the meeting!

I don't think we made a relic hunter out of Rob, but he had a good time. Thanks again for sharing your field with the club Drew ......... good luck Sunday and don't forget the hunt next weekend...

If I lived closer I'd be hunting for those relics. I cleaned up my button,it's got an eagle and (I) on it. It's in one piece but it has a dent. Rob

Rob, in that field, if your button was in one piece, you did good. The chemicals have a tendency of eating the face off. The farmer also plowed 15 inches a few months ago so im hoping thats what brought the good stuff to the top. If youre a friend of Larry, please feel free to stop by anytime down there. Glad you could get to do some civil war relic hunting!
