I was told to try a American Hawks Explorer II Metal Detector. It was my first time with a detector and this thing was either bad from the factory or a piece of junk. I tried and tried to use it to no avail. I checked for reviews on it thru google and forums and nothing.

I then got smart and googled metal detecting forums and wallah, 2 days ago I started reading here and found the Ace would be something for me to give it another go.

I was about to give up but have decided to try again and give the Ace a try.

Is the American Hawks even a name brand I cannot find anything on it anywhere but amazon.

Sounds like one of the many Chinese made detector flooding the market. You will be happy with the Ace. It is what i use and they are a really good machine.

Hey, Stix! Welcome to the forum. I think you're really going to like the Ace 250. I'm just beginning to use one myself and having a blast.

Hi and thanks. I am just picken spots as to where to start after I get some practice cleaning up the yard. I live on 12 acres and prolly nothing around on it as its mostly wooded but will go out and practice till i get used to it. Can't wait to get it :)

You might be surprised by what you find on your property - particularly the wooded area. Do you know its history? If not, you may want to do some research. Have fun!

Tried searching the history and not coming up with much. Its a old small little town. We bought the place here in 79 and it was just land and woods. There is some odd things threw out the area especially the rocks in the middle of no where with names and dates etched into them with what looks like a chisel..... Not all grouped up but 1 here and there not like a graveyard.

The back area is a river/ marsh area. Thats about all I know of it, should be fun seeing what it does turn up if anything. I will get a start on it tomorrow thats for sure :)

Good luck, the Ace is a good detector but remember...

It can only find treasure if treasure is there to be found.

If one site doesn't pan out, there's always another.

Now you've got a real detector and it should reward you well once you learn how to use it and that takes a little time and patience. If you have problems this is the place to come to. Lot of smart fellers on here to help you out. Good luck.

Stix,
Congrats on your new Garrett! It won't let you down. Now while your learning your real metal detector start saving for the Garrett PP. That's the best advice I could give you!:garrett:

Not sure of that first model you mentioned but you have a real
detector now. Lots of information on the Ace 250 here from
those that have been successful with it. Learn what the
Ace 250 is telling you and you wont be disappointed.
Looking forward to hearing of some great finds from you.

Dont go higher than that at first until you get some time on the Ace 250.

On fed ex truck for delivery!!! :) Been pouring here but by the time it gets here suppose to be partly sunny and 75. Start with a sensitivity of 4? I will give that a go and get some time in see how it goes. After reading all the good things on the Ace its got me excited to try it.

Well guess we are in the same boat. I just ordered mine on the 21st it will be here Friday just in time for the weekend!!!!!!!!
so good luck I look forward to your post.

OK!! Question time :p

First what I found in about an hour or 2. First thing I heard and dug up was a penny about 4" down nothing special new one. Then I got a arrow from a bow. Then some aluminum piece. A pop can that was like 10" down. Some copper tubing.

Ok questions.

1. I had the setting at four and was getting the coin ding swinging it back and forth tho it would vary from a dime to 50 at times but would always ding. I dig a scoop check and bam no signal or anything lie it vanished?? What gives?

2. Same as above I would get signals for something in all metal and move some dirt and bam gone?

3. At times it was just going bonkers in the ground beeping like crazy. What is this?

I really like the unit and the weight this thing is tiny heh I love it!!! Just need to learn to use it.

Maybe a lot of mineralization in your ground. Try turning the sens down to 2-3 bars and set it in coin mode and see if that helps. It is going to take you a while but you will start to figure it out. I still am.
