Just pre ordered the xterra pro

I do not need it.....but what the heck. I tried looking around at the bass pro shops but they did not have any in stock.

I have watched several videos with people using it and I like the new 0 to 99 id numbers.

My first minelab was an xterra 50 and I really loved it with the 6 inch 18khz coil.

I wish it had a slightly higher kHz option instead of 15 being the highest....I wish it went to 20 but beggars cannot be choosers.

Overall I think it is gonna be a fun unit.

It's a pretty safe bet that it won't leave you feeling disappointed, even if it doesn't impress you with its ability.
IMO, the new Pro punches well above its weight class, and for the $ you can't really go wrong with it.

From what I have saw with what you have found yourself that you posted in here.....I think it would be a great little coin unit for around old houses and such. Maybe even for some relic hunting out in the fields too.

Plus what I have saw with the guys on youtube who have actually used it on the beach......for a single freq unit it seems to run pretty stable

FWIW, I hunt by audio. Numbers are just something to look at, but audio is where it's at.
I typically run All Metal and All Tones w/Recovery no faster than 2. It sounds busy, but in reality, it teaches you the proper sweep speed for conditions.

I noticed that the YouTube videos mostly show guys swinging their coils like they were weed whips, they don't overlap their passes, and I can't watch them w/o wanting to slap some sense into them. I'd love to hunt directly behind those guys so they could see all that they are missing with their lousy technique. For me it's not a race, and I can take the time to be thorough.

Well yes all the videos are not correct but I watch more of the first time out ones rather than the depth test and such.


Either way....I am looking forward to when it arrives.....I hope it isnt too far out

I'm in the same boat. Don't need it, but the price is great and I got a loyalty discount from my dealer. I paid more for my coiltek equinox coil than for this detector. If it is as good in the water and on the beach as they say, I will be happy. Unfortunately like most dealers, mine is still waiting for inventory. Using my 700 everyday for at least an hour, so will be interesting to see the comparison.

Being a 705 devotee and a moderator on this forum, I felt somewhat compelled to get the new Pro mostly so I could stay up to speed for new members to the forum.

The transition to the new Pro is an easy one for old Xterra users because the language the machine speaks is quite similar. The biggest differences are mainly features, as far as I can tell to this point. We gave up Tracking Offset and Prospector Mode, and gained a Beach Mode that works in salty conditions, user defined tone breaks and the addition of Depth Audio, a choice of 3 Recovery (reset) speeds, and the Pro Switch that allows frequency changes w/o swapping coils. The TID numbers are a wider range than the old 70/705, but that really isn't a big deal.

Beyond that, I'm still learning all that the new Pro brings to the table through testing in the field. I'm curious about the actual differences between Park and Field modes as well as the practical differences between Park 1 vs Park 2 and Field 1 vs Field 2, and the ability of the Beach modes to work on dry land in highly mineralized ground as opposed to the wet salt it was programmed for. I'll also be paying attention to recovered target depth differences between the old and new machines.

It snowed here yesterday, so it will be a while yet before I can do the sort of testing that I plan to do, but nicer weather is just around the corner and I'm looking forward to putting the Pro through its paces.

Yeah I never really could figure out the park 1 and 2 stuff on the equinox as well.

Matter of fact....I used the eq 600 in single freq mostly anyways. It just runs so much smoother in high iron around civil war camp sites and old houses in certain areas.


So to me the new xterra is basically everything I used on the equinox anyways and it has such a broader new numerical I D system too.


I really like the charger on the equinox as well and am very glad to see that they have stuck with that set up for the xterra.


On my first xterra 50 I had....I really got into that machine. I tried a x70 but preferred the x50. It was balanced very good and was a very sturdy unit with the control rod set up it had at the time.


How does the new xterras control rod feel?? Is it sturdier than the first generation equinox set up??


When whites came out with the MXT......I switched over to that as it did go deeper and i got used to their numbering system again.

I bought the x505 and played with it a while but it just did not seem as sensitive as my first x50 was. Maybe it was me.....I don't know but my first x50 was a winner for sure.

I had to buy my XTP from Cabelas .....I found it to be a very nice and stable machine, and really good at pinpointing but overall I still like my simplex better and am selling the XTP so there is no conflict as which machine to use today. The VDI is very similar to the simplex too.
