From the time I began to get into metal detecting one of the coins I desired to find the most was the 2center. I think they are one of the best looking coins they have ever designed. After four years, I finally got to unearth this beauty.

Not sure how you cleaned it up, but you a great job!!
I have only found one myself and it is in very bad shape… no date and very little detail left.
Congrats on a super find!!!
Really I just gave it a quick wipe on the pant leg seam in the field, let it dry and then just scraped the dirt off with my fingernail at home. It required very little work.

Having a nice patina always helps. Not sure why some develope one and others dont. I've had Indian heads out of the same location in various states of decay.
The ones with patinas are well preserved, while others will be corroded and unidentifiable even though they are of the same composition.

It’s a good question Ism. I have had similiar scenarios as well. I just chalk it up to ground moisture, chemicals if in a crop field, and just coin material.
